The picture is very grainy and I can see three humps which appears to make it look like her index.
But, if you clinch your hand together and flip someone off the thumb can poke above the third finger making a bump which would
give the impression that it was a third finger and not the thumb. Like George RR Martin in this picture.

if it were finger wagging there would be nothing discernible there. In fact facing a person and watching a person wag their finger as you say she is doing and as the camera person did ,no individual knuckles would been seen. At best you would see a thumb stick out, again no individual knuckles, and you might see something like a backwards check mark where the fingers form the finger wag.

that small little thing you see where the two knuckles are there is a little thing there. but whatever it is it is not a bent pinkey finger. Fingers don't work that way unless she has somehow deformed her fingers. Sorry but that's just how fingers work. You don't have to study someone else's hands, look at your own. Stand in front of a mirror and hold your hand and fingers like that, that's not a finger wag, then stand in from of a mirror and flip yourself the bird, and you will see what you see in that picture. Now you have a real good day, I'm bored with this discussion.

Tue May 24, 2016, 04:40 PM

I think she was commenting on how much of a social/ social media movement the SBS thing has been. And to the extent that there has been a lot of social pressure that (all) younger voters are more vulnerable to I think there is a bit of truth to it. I could see that being said in slightly different ways about any candidate, and their social group though. And I am sure any of them would be insulted too! But people vote for personalities and as groups probably more than they do on the issues. Sad, but often true.

I think calling anything about what she said a "slut shame" is pretty twisted. When I was younger 90% of my friends were men, and not because I wanted to fuck them. That shit is insane. And deeply insulting to women.

And not just Steinem- Madeleine Albright, DWS, etc have done it, too. (Not to mention a good number of posters here.)

If the Steinem comment had happened in a vacuum, I think it would be one thing, but it didn't.

It has been a kind almost reflexive and knee-jerk get off my lawnitude, and it's counterproductive- because for all the "they never vote" noise, insulting them is one way to ensure they don't.

Tue May 24, 2016, 05:09 PM
May 2016

And for me at this point the only relevant question is how do we get to a place of more unity.

Like, Boxer was my Senator for many years. I believe I phone banked for her in '98, IIRC, but it's hazy. But I was always a fan and a supporter. (DiFi, not so much) ... whether she flipped the bird or not is immaterial to me, personally. And whatever went down in NV, and like I said I think there has been hyperbole around it from all sides- one takeaway I would think we all could get out of this deal is, what the fuck are we doing in 2016 with these crazy and arcane caucus procedures?

The system needs an overhaul, and I'm not talking "oh we must open all our primaries to independents", I mean we are long overdue to do away with caucuses and maybe in the process update the order in which states vote, to give different parts of the country a chance to weigh in earlier every 4 years.

Just my opinion.
