Heard something concerning a while ago,

on NewsHour, discussing SuperTuesday. Possibility of mittens selecting Rob Portman, Ohio repug Senator, as V.P.
Not happy about this, but don't know how popular Portman is in OH since he's been in Senate, and wonder whether this might result in OH going R in November.

he's been around.

'is the junior United States Senator from Ohio. He is a member of the Republican Party.[1] He succeeded retiring Senator George Voinovich.[2]

From 1993 to 2005, Portman served in the United States House of Representatives, representing Ohio's 2nd congressional district, which stretches along the Ohio River from the Hamilton County suburbs of Cincinnati east to Scioto County and Pike County. Portman won seven consecutive congressional elections with over 70 percent of the vote.[3][4]

Portman served in two federal cabinet positions under the administration of President George W. Bush. From May 2005 to May 2006, he was the U.S. Trade Representative. From May 2006 to June 2007, he was Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).[4] He has consistently received praise from Republicans and Democrats for knowledge and bipartisan work in trade and budget affairs. He is considered a potential name for Vice President on the Republican presidential ticket in 2012.'

That was the most disgusting pre george w moron election where the press worked so hard for the reagan campaign. They WANTED a 50 state sweep.

The worst examples I remember were an evening "news" broadcast that showed Mondale discussing the federal budget for 45 seconds followed by 3 minutes of reagan in Nashville leading a crowd in singing "Happy Birthday" to Roy Acuff and a local radio report on how wonderful reagan's influence was for Mondale putting a woman on the ticket.

YUCK!

You have to go all the way back to JFK-LBJ to find a VP candidate who had a true impact on the overall election.

I think people put way too much emphasis on the VP slot. If we elected candidates solely because of their VP pick, Dukakis would have destroyed Bush in 1988. If anything, that election shows us how little a candidate can change the dynamics. Quayle was a complete moron and got his butt handed to him by Bentsen and yet, in the end, they rolled to victory.

Just look at it this way: What did Edwards bring to the table in '04 for Kerry? Certainly not his home state...right?

I wish it meant we would "get rid" of him that way, but VA govs only serve one term. His slogan was "Bob's for Jobs"--- that "s" turned out to be an exaggeration. He's only concerned about ONE job... for himself. His whole governorship has been about burnishing his VP cred.
