Here's my dirty little secret: I really want to be able to get behind Hillary.

I want to be excited about what is undeniably a historic campaign. As a feminist I think having the first woman President will be a hugely important step forward (it will happen, eventually, but it may not be her) I do think she's good on most social issues. There are positives.

And yet... I keep coming back to the many issues I just don't trust her on. On national security where I fear she's just too hawkish. But mostly on economic issues. Because while she's talked a good game, I just don't believe, in the end, that her interests lie with the vast majority of us who live paycheck to paycheck. I do not trust her to have my- our- back. So yeah, in some ways, I could probably #be with her. Right now, though, I want a leader who will #be with us.

And a vote for Jill Stein or another 3rd party candidate is NOT a vote for Trump. A vote for Trump is a vote for Trump. And I doubt you'll find any Bernie supporters on DU that would ever vote for Trump.

set a bar higher than Palin which Hillary clears (I'd have been prouder to support Geraldine Ferraro than Hillary).

If we nominate her, Hillary won't even be the best female candidate for President on my godamn ballot for christsake.

I keep trying to tell myself that we have to have a Maggie Thatcher to break the glass ceiling before we can elect a woman I'm proud to support without pinching my nose.

8. It was going to have to be someone who was hawkish enough, sadly.

Someone who could be seen as "tough enough". It's sexist as hell but women still have that "too soft" stereotype to overcome. I always suspected our first female President would most likely be Republican for that reason. For good or ill, very few see Hillary as not tough enough.

9. I know the feeling... And if the first woman President is impeached...

well, that's not a fact I want my granddaughter to have to learn in her history class someday.

I don't expect my candidate to be perfect, but for chrissakes, Hillary's just got a laundry list of areas that trouble me greatly. I just wish greed hadn't gotten the best of her nearly 40 years ago.

except I'm less inclined to #be with her than you are -- for the reasons you give, but more so.

I too would like to see a woman be president. But gender is just one consideration, and it's not at the top of the list because we face too many important issues today to make gender the # 1 issue.

13. You reminded me of a Chris Rock joke that I'll try to not ruin by paraphrasing:

He said basically that electing a competent black man as president was an amazing step in the right direction. But, we'll know we're close to racial equality when we elect a black man who is as incompetent as George bush, but his race is never to blame for his incompetence.

In that context applied to this primary, it's better to not vote for Clinton due to actual issues, than to not vote for her outright because she's a woman
