In June 2015, Maddow was interviewing Bernie Sanders. She told him his idea of debates between Democratic and Republican candidates before the nominee is chosen is a 'dramatic and creative proposal:'

3. Except matching a winner with a loser...

makes no sense. It's like inviting candidates to debates after they drop out. Why not have Warren debate Trump instead? That wouldn't hurt as much as Sanders doing this to us.

7. Because it omits Sanders, and therefore prevents Clinton from looking bad by comparison.

5. Sanders has all but lost and he's nearly broke.

Trump has just won all the delegates he needs to be the GOPs nominee. The only reason he would meet Sanders is because he's the perfect patsy for everything that Republicans hate about Democrats. Sanders can't even handle the least little criticisms against him, and he constantly complains that Hillary is picking on him, so what's he going to do when Trump turns him into a punching bag... faint or bawl?

...or the many opponents he's debated in Vermont.

After Trump chews him to bits, I'm going with bawling Just like he's done in the past, if Sanders were to ever face Trump, he will cry that the debate was rigged, the questions were biased, the moderators were paid off, the broadcast station was bought, the audience was stuffed, and the polls were out to get him... therefore, he won. It's his whole MO.

9. Sanders never said that after any of the many debates

...he's done for over 40 years.
