(39,909 posts)Would you call anyone a misogynist for OPPOSING Sarah Palin or Michele Bachmann
because they felt they are fundamentally dishonest and untrustworthy, and too Pro-War and Pro-Big Business?
Why is it "misogynist" to NOT support Hillary for the same reasons.
While Hillary is not as bad as Palin or Bachmann, their untrustworthyness and war mongering is only a matter of degree.
If I were completely blind to the genders, and only saw an outline of the debates, policies, and track records, my vote would still go to Sanders whether he were male of female simply because he BEST represents my mainstream FDR Democratic Party Values....and union busting, free trading, destroyer of countries Hillary does not even come close.
I can't support a "Democrat" who, while taking MILLIONS from Wall Street and Corporate Pacs, insists that all Americans, especially the Working Class and Poor, can NEVER have the benefits and rights that the citizens of every other developed country in the WORLD take for granted. THAT is not in my DNA. I reject that NO.WE.CAN'T premise OUTRIGHT.

I want a party that will STAND UP for Working Americans."

(6,272 posts)I am a bit confused by your response. I would never consider Palin or Bachman to be feminists or representing anything democratic.
Is this author some known Hillary promoter?
I found the article very thought provoking.

(10,007 posts)Yes, misogyny and sexism are toxic. No, everyone who disagrees with your hero is not a misogynist.

(6,272 posts)My vote was going to be for Bernie until Barbara Boxer got verbally assaulted. Most of my friends were going to vote for Bernie, and many remain enthusiastic for him. But a number of them have recently switched. This article explained a lot to me. I see it a bit differently now.

(10,007 posts)You "were going to vote for Bernie", but a few impolite Sanders supporters in Nevada reacted to Boxer's taunts, and THAT changed your mind. Of course, Bernie has ZERO to do with that.
Way to stick to the "issues".
That is pretty shallow criteria you have for picking your candidate.
Some Sanders supporters Booed Boxer for her partisan Hillary cheer leading and overt taunts to the Bernie crowd.
Yes, I believe you were going to vote for Sanders.

(6,272 posts)It was a group of mean bullies and their bizarre behavior that led me to read the article posted above. It was shared by some friend of mine on Facebook, a friend that I had not been paying too much attention to before. Then I did more thinking about it. And I read all this bizarre stuff on DU, people picking on Barbara Boxer for being scared? Wow, just wow.
And has Sander's really apologized for the behavior of his delegates? No, and his supporters have sure seem to me to have become more rude- certainly on this site they have, and on Facebook, the reactions are totally over the top.
So, I have switched. That is it, despite the fact that she is so maddeningly centrist. The only solution that I see if getting a lot more liberals down ticket and in our local government.

(517 posts)I never met a man that I could stand until I was in late high school. I had a couple of friends that were amazing and they were the only men that I had any respect for. As I got older, I realized that I was slowly but surely meeting good men. They are not all assholes. Many are wonderful but you have to be open to seeing it. I was closed off for so long. Now I know many great men. I know thousands of jerks too but they aren't all that way. Look at Bernie when he speaks. He is genuine. I have learned to tell the difference. I respect this man and I believe in him. If you don't, I think that you never really listened. He is the last person to victimize people. He has spent his whole life trying to raise people up. He doesn't think he is better than anyone, he thinks that everyone needs to be better and everyone have a chance. WE are in this together.
People who say that he is misogynist are victimizing him and transferring because I don't see that at all. I would vote for Warren in a heartbeat but Clinton just has too much baggage and is too tied to the money.

(765 posts)married to a man who also happens to be a feminist. Being against sexism isn't the same as being against men. I don't know whether Bernie himself is sexist, but I know some of his supporters definitely are. Not all of them, of course, but there are many of them.

(765 posts)in the '08 primaries, but I was expecting it this time. I don't think the left is more sexist than the right, but they are certainly just as sexist. I see sexist posts on the DU all the time. It's accepted in our culture, and men get a lot of benefits from it. Hell, there are ways women can benefit from it too in this patriarchal society, which is why you will see sexist women (like Ann Coulter).
The responses you've gotten so far are further proof that society says sexism is OK. People think nothing of it. In fact, they yawn right in your face when it is exposed. Post an article about racism, or religious intolerance, and you will never have anyone yawning in your face and dismissing it. That is also proof that people, mostly men, think it's fine to sneer when a woman brings up sexism. That is the culture we live in.
We live in a civilization that is based on patriarchal rule. It is the most destructive bigotry in the world and it profoundly affects girls and women in every single country in the world. The "yawners" are nothing more than patriarchy's toadies. They keep the bigotry alive, just as people like them have for over 2,000 years. Sexism will not be ending any time soon.
