2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumPeople, people, people!! We really need to stop the bickering and get our heads together on
not just how to bring the party together, but how to bring the party out to vote and how to EDUCATE our voters about the importance of voting in every election and for every position. Sheriffs, judges, city councils, boards of education, but especially State legislatures, and GOVERNORSHIPS!
We are faced right now with situations that could very well deny us the best winning ticket for the President just because we can't afford to lose Senate seats in states with GOP governors. We can't afford to have some great Democrats appointed to important cabinet or other positions because we can't afford to loses some Senate seats because GOP governors would get to select their replacement. We need to pay attention to where we put our focus and think long term.
If we don't set our focus on future elections, voter suppression, and state and LOCAL elections we are walking on a treadmill, taking many steps but going no where.

(45,319 posts)Those of you in States that have such problems need to deal with them. I've been saying this during my entire time on DU. So what you need to do is take action to make changes between the cycles. What you need to do is actually care enough to take actual action, not just affect concerns when it suits your momentary politics.
Two factors hinder progress on election reform. First is the fact that the issues get forgotten and dropped the moment the election is over when that is the time those issues need to be raised. The second factor is that during the cycle, we all tend to speak out about irregularities when our candidate loses and to overlook them when our candidate wins. Caucuses? In Nevada Hillary people won and so they found any objections to be horrible. In Washington, she lost the caucus so they object to holding a caucus at all. What really works is to oppose the caucus when no one is a candidate. Seek changes between cycles, seek them first at the State level where most election decisions are made.
So if you care about this, you will post about it regularly even and especially after we have a nominee in place. Even and especially after we win the White House.
What State do you vote in, OP?
