2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumBernie Sanders is done. He has lost. Case closed.
Only someone whose mind is lost in some other galaxy thinks that Bernie Sanders still has some kind of "path" to the Democratic nomination. Sorry, but that is just plain WRONG.
He has lost fair and square. Now sure, go ahead and finish out the primaries. Let everyone vote. I'm all for it.
But this primary was over for all intents and purposes after Super Tuesday. The writing was on the wall.
I like Bernie, but he was never a Democrat. He knew it would be very hard for him to win because he said so. He was welcomed into the party and has benefited from all it does for candidates (voter data and all the rest). He hasn't won as many states, has lost the big states, and hasn't won nearly as many popular votes. He is so behind in pledged delegates that there is no way for him to catch up. Bernie is a self-avowed socialist and would be crushed by negative ads. As of yet he has not had to endure a single negative ad and has not been fully vetted. He is seriously under-informed around policy, especially foreign policy. (And the email stuff? My goodness, if parroting ridiculous right wing hype about Hillary's "damn emails" that BERNIE is "sick and tired of hearing about" is all the anti-Hillary people have, then they sure don't have much at all. The email stuff is much ado about very little. This week's report about that revealed very little that was new, and, as the Newsweek article shows in detail, is still no REAL "scandal." It's not like Hillary Clinton was trying to be a double agent for Russia with her email.)
It will be Hillary or FrankenTrump, and Bernie says FrankenTrump would be a "disaster for this country."
Case closed. Next case.

(587 posts)if I ask my boss for a raise and promotion, and he says no... does that mean they are worried that I might be the most amazing person ever and embarass them with my productivity?
Or, does it just mean they don't want to give me a raise and promotion?
Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.
And sometimes a loser is just a loser.
And sometimes pointing out that someone is a loser is just pointing out that they are a loser.

(31,700 posts)She hasn't won the campaign. She is ahead in the primary and set to lose the general election, badly.

(26,877 posts)Senator Sanders is MUCH closer to FDR than Secretary Clinton can ever be.
Sorry, case is still open, especially given Secretary Clinton is spending more time playing defense as of late than anything.
That said, IF (it's still an IF until Philly) Secretary Clinton gets the nom, I will campaign and vote for her, because, given her high negative #'s, she's gonna need all the help she can get...

(30,058 posts)Let the voting continue, winning is not an option for Sanders. Accepting the results and moving along to the GE would be good.

(1,820 posts)How very very gracious of you to allow us to keep on moving forward. The primary is about much more than simple voting. A change is coming and conservative democrats are going to be very disappointed. Thankfully I will be around to watch the nashing of teeth and wailing.

(30,058 posts)If I wanted to be a Republican I have had many opportunities to be one, if I wanted to be in the Green party ib would, if I wanted to be in the otherv parties, I would join them, I would join and follow their agenda, I don't want to follow another agenda so thr record I will remain a Democrat, you are welcome to join, we don't need your changes.

anything to distract from the train wreck that is HRC as a candidate

(48,181 posts)now you are getting to what really concerns you. You are a right-wing Democrat. Our party has a YUUUUGE Schism. Your side most likely has won this round (but not quite yet), but it is a victory that may in fact be very short lived. I'd hold off on the celebratory "fuck off lefties" posts for a while.

(6,719 posts)The movement is alive and well and lots of people are active and I have a suggestion for you. Keep your eye on the 2018 ballot!! No Bernie but many Bernie peeps will be fledging. A new generation of activists is well on their way. You need not be afraid of Bernie. But you might want to be caution about closing the case.

(17,064 posts)There's a broad streak of panic running through your post. Yea, I'd be panicked too, if my candidate was the target of an FBI criminal investigation. Too bad she and her elitist supporters are hell-bent on taking the party down with her, but we'll manage to rebuild a real progressive party in place of the fake-republican one.

(39,909 posts)Then say "Hello" to President Trump, who is now polling ahead of Hillary,
while polls show Sanders beating Trump by double digits.
Don't you think it is foolish to nominate the weaker candidate for the General Election?
THAT is the ONE MAJOR ISSUE that our "Super delegates" need to take seriously.

(17,438 posts)Can't wait for that messy convention! The reason Skinner hasn't "called it" is because he knows the case isn't closed yet, and he doesn't want to lose Bernie's supporters from this site, IMHO.
But, hey, keep on trying!
mythology
(9,527 posts)It won't be a messy convention. Even if Sanders attempts to go all the way to the convention, he's not going to get the super delegates to switch to him given Clinton's substantial lead in the pledged delegates and thus it will be one short vote that Sanders will lose.

(10,721 posts)Yet the one and only example ever produced, as far as I know, was one dubbed the "Bern Path." I'm sure some here recall that. The problem is the "Bern Path" was utterly unrealistic. It had him winning NY by 8 points and PA by 16 points. It had him losing MD by just 10 points. It has him winning CA by 16 points and NJ by 12 points, while losing DC by just 16 points.
It speaks volumes that that's the best people could come up with.
While Sanders hasn't been mathematically eliminated from winning a majority of pledged delegates, it's been clear for months that he's extremely unlikely to do so.

(15,512 posts)Then it's over. Sanders needs 841 and has no possible chance of getting them. The elected vs super delegate quibble is a #BernieMath thing and the race ends on June 7 or before. There is no chance that Clinton will be indicted. There is no chance she will crater in CA. There is no chance that any SD who hasn't already indicated Bernie will do so. There's every chance that the reverse will occur. It really and truly is over.

(5,217 posts)guaranteed that there won't be any mysterious blocks of hundreds of thousands of likely Bernie voters' registrations flipped or lost. And Bill Clinton won't be electioneering in the entry ways to polling stations. And the DNC won't be sending out factually wrong mailers misdirecting people about when and where to vote.
Good to know.
