2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forum80% of my CA phonebank respondents voted for Bernie!!!
I phonebanked into Cali yesterday. Was calling Permanent Mail-in Ballot voters. 80% of the ones who answered the phone had already voted for Bernie! And I was able to help one of the NPP Bernie voters get a correct Dem ballot, instead of a non-affiliated ballot.
The CA polls have Bernie within 2 points of Hillary right now. Based on my calls, he actually may be ahead of her!
Woo hoo. Go Bernie!

(5,400 posts)It became a running joke how many calls we got.
We even sent back a picture of us canvassing.
Good on you for phone banking. I'll try to do some tomorrow, out of solidarity. Sounds like you got it covered. Then I need to do New Jersey, I guess.

(68,576 posts)I have done phone banks for years and no one ever gets those number...I call BS on this. Most people hang up as soon as they hear you...before you say anything...the ones that actually answer and listen...well I don't buy your story...sorry.
JimDandy
(7,318 posts)every other one was a hangup, not home, or declined to provide a candidate preference. I must say, my calling partner got a whole lot more hangups than I did and her response rate was lower-about 60% Bernie. That my response rate was unusual to you (and it was unusual for me also, compared to other states I've called into this season) doesn't mean it was bullshit.
Demsrule86
(68,576 posts)Called for many hours myself...worked New York. Although I live in Ohio...I grew up in Connecticut and hubs is from the Bronx...went to Manhattan. I don't think he can win California by enough if at all. 80% is still high. I doubt that is a representative sample...campaign should have internal polling.

(12,689 posts)Campaigns generally don't do persuasion at such a late stage and focus only on their yes votes from previous phone banks. It's about getting out the vote rather than convincing anyone new to vote.
JimDandy
(7,318 posts)These were not persuasion or GOTV calls. They were preference only, which is why there were so many calls.

(11,945 posts)The second best was probably Bobby Kennedy, whose heart/soul seemed to grow by leaps and bounds in the months prior to his death.
Bernie has been a beautiful, caring human being since his youth, but it's incredibly moving to see him come into his own in his seventies.

(11,949 posts)They all vote at the same time. On the first vote. The supers will vote with the majority of the pledged. And that will be Clinton.
How many times do you have to this explained. It is not rocket science nor brain surgery. If Bernie wins the majority of the pledge delicates he will get the superdelegates and the votes of almost all Hillary supporters.
I know many of you just are bad at math. But it is what it is. On June 7th Clinton will secure the majority of the pledge delegates at that time she will ensure her super delegates.
Why is this so difficult to understand?

(7,318 posts)Hope Bernie didn't give it to her. If she gets it, she'll have to invest a lot of time sorting out which of his supporters won't vote for her in the GE (like me) from those who will hold their noses and do so.

(13,133 posts)I was really cool being Cali to be able to change registration to the Democratic party online and get sent an e-mail about it, knowing it was done. Been voting Democratic for decades just really had no reason to be registered into till now.
Even it ends up just being a protest vote i am cool with it. Mostly too i cannot remember any candidate here losing here going on to winning the general.
And don't regret contributing a decent sum Bernie either, matter fact it felt like it was worth it and might of helped in some way.
At any rate i know i get to vote and knowing WE all will be saying something here in CALI.

JimDandy
(7,318 posts)received Permanent Mail-in Ballots and declared they were NPP. So they were self-labeled Independents. We simply asked: Will you be voting for Bernie, Clinton or another candidate in the primary? Of those who answered and didn't decline to state, I got one who was voting Trump, some Clinton supporters (all except one were female), several Undecided including one who was undecided btw Bernie and Trump (Really? Ugg.), and the rest were Bernie.

(10,136 posts)If I don't recognize the caller id it goes straight to voicemail.
I hope you informed those NPP Trump voters that unless they had re-registered by the deadline they can not vote for a Republican presidential candidate in California's primary.

(7,318 posts)calls, we have been allowed to leave messages. I'm sure it's the same with Clinton callers.
Why would you want a Dem campaign to provide info to Trump supporters on how to vote? We don't give out info to either Trump or Clinton supporters. We simply handle calls as fast as the dialer serves them up when polling.

(7,318 posts)If they said Bernie, I of course said "Awesome" and we virtual high-fived, otherwise it was just "Thanks, have a good day. Bye."
Reps on legitimate polling calls will immediately ID themselves. We state right off the bat that we're with the Sanders campaign.

(1,446 posts)that there was far more activity at the Hillary booth than at the Sanders one. Also, Hillary's people were giving out buttons, stickers and yard signs for free, while the Sanders people were charging for what they had. When I talked to the people at the Hillary table, they said that by giving out freebies, most people donate even more than they would have if there was a fixed amount.

They don't want to see how desperate the situation is. Here on what was DU, the retaliation for bringing up the topic is a baragee of ignorant retorts. May Jimmy Carter rise to the occasion and get us some third world help to solve this problem.
