The corollary to "praying for an indictment" is brushing off any wrongdoings no matter how bad

they get.

If some here can be criticized for hoping or even praying for an indictment, than surely others here can be criticized for prematurely and permanently dismissing any new facts that arise in this slow-moving investigation.

Even definition 2b) seems off for here. I would say the situation you describe is antiparallel. Anyway, all of this is neither here nor there.

Surely ignoring evidence of dismal judgment on the part of a candidate for President of the United States fits somewhere!

is the context.

If you state "a", you can bet that a fan of your opponent will state "not-a" - it is guaranteed - it is a natural reaction.

I initially thought converse as well, but decided the OP is correct as stated.

good phrase.
I am ready to make a moneyed bet the FBI will recommend indictment.

Can only make such a bet if I'm sure, since I'm also broke.

and I'm not nearly as invested in an indictment, just in a groundswell against a candidate with such bad judgment, but go for it!

willing to pay me when they lose; but in case I lose, which I won't,
I don't have to pay. So it's a good bet! No takers yet.. doubt anyone
is confident enough. I would be, if I had the money, and that is a fact.

It will astonish me if there isn't an indictment recommendation
from FBI -- an actual indictment or trial or ha ha ha conviction seems
less likely -- but a highly FBI-recommended opportunity for her to withdraw
with a shred of dignity to private life, in private, for good.
And him too. All of them. sheesh.
