(18,115 posts)She cannot become the nominee until the convention. Bernie is taking it to the convention with the spectre of the FBI criminal investigation looming in HIllary's shadow.
This won't be over until the floor vote.

He can be a team player, or he can be a dead end sore loser. His call.

(11,366 posts)Bernie supporters see no evidence of your candidate welcoming them into (or back into, as the case may be) the party, so have fun with the FBI, Trump, faltering poll numbers and indifferent voters. Berners will be out there trying to pull the Democratic Party back to where it should be: representing the working class with FDR-like policies and not corruptly catering to the top 10 percent.

It's almost like the Hillary campaign wanted to follow Bernie's, and adopt a bird as its symbol.
Unfortunately, that bird is an ostrich.

But hey, if you want to call being selected by the nominee to be the VP to be the same as the grueling battle that's going on now to earn the nominee position, go right ahead.

(643 posts)Bernie is a great guy, with a great message, but this ain't about Bernie. It's about his message. And that message isn't going away.
Neither are the millions of people who have heard it. Once again, we have an example of the Democratic party thinking small, short term. Sure, your establishment, corporate sponsored candidate may win the nomination, but the party has lost its way. We will either help the party see this, or if it declines to listen, we will move on. I believe the latter will be the end result and both sides will be quite satisfied with that. I know I will.
hack89
(39,171 posts)there are entire demographic groups that overwhelmingly rejected his message. So it would appear his message does not appeal to a broad enough slice of the American public to be a game changer.

(643 posts)Let's keep in mind that a large number of primaries were closed, keeping millions of independent voters from participating. We can debate whether or not that was a wise decision on the part of the DNC. What is not debatable is that independent voters overwhelmingly support Bernie's message; the evidence is clear when you look at the national polls for the GE, where he handily beats Trump while Hillary is neck and neck with him.
So, essentially, at least half of all registered voters would identify with his message. Dismiss it all you like, but that doesn't strike me as a fringe candidate.
And it give me hope that American citizens realizes that accepting billions from super pacs (while at the same time vowing to eliminate them), supporting fracking, supporting job killing trade agreements, voting for the war in Iraq, proposing no fly zones, opposing Glass Steagall, opposing healthcare for all, and opposing free tuition for college IS NOT what the Democratic party is about. I mean seriously, which one of these issues is not found on the gop platform? None. And yet they are are all embraced by Hillary. And that is why I'm glad to see so many people have gotten the message and will continue to fight for what is right. It's far from over. The fight is just beginning.
hack89
(39,171 posts)the demographics of independents have been studied for decades. They divide into three groups - those that will ultimately vote Dem, those that will ultimately vote Republican, and those that are truly independent of any party. That last group is about 20% of all independents. I see that dynamic play out all the time in Rhode Island - declared independents are the largest group of voters yet we consistently elect Democrats, especially in local elections.

(5,790 posts)Voila! They can participate.
Independent voters need to join a party or quit bitching that they are locked out of primaries through their own choice. You can't have it both ways.

(11,366 posts)who can't vote in Democratic primaries.
But they are people you'll need to appeal to in the Fall. Hillary doesn't much do that.
