Exit polling provides an independent check on "official results" reported by suspect computerized voting systems. My response to them is always "No thanks. I voted inside." No exit poll is equivalent to the real one at the ballot box.

3. I think most people recognize the importance of these polls

as verification. Particularly since the advent of electronic voting.
Maybe you are more trusting of e-voting?

4. Every place I have lived has used paper ballots read by

optical scanners or manually counted (as they were in California for many elections I've participated in). I've watched more than one manual recount in both California and Minnesota verify the results. I've not experienced any election fraud in any place I have lived, and I follow such things closely.

I have nothing to do with election policies in states where I am not a resident, but am very interested in proper vote counts in the states where I am. I recommend that everyone look to the election verification procedures in their own states and be militant if they are not fair and accurate.

I am a firm believer in the secret ballot, which is why I refuse to participate in exit polling. My vote is my business, and none of the business of anyone else. Period.

I do not trust exit polls. Where I live, I can justifiably trust the official election results. If you can't where you live, then you have a job to do, I think.

6. Of course exit polls are anonymous, so your vote would remain 'your business'.

But I'm glad you've found a state with a system you can believe in. If you're
comfortable with it, that's all that matters. But I think you may be a minority
as I think most citizens, if asked, would request more verification than the current
systems provide.
