There are bad elements and there are misguided people as there are in all groups, but Sanders supporters are our friends, partners, and allies. As a group we only have each other. No one else cares.

I'd rather have a DU full of honest and enthusiastic Sanders supporters than a DU full of stiffs that are here to trash people and rub it in.

I've endured the insults and abuse. One of the biggest problems this cycle has been the lack of respect. It comes straight from the top of Sanders campaign. But I've been through this before. The campaign will pass and life will go on. Your opponents today are your friends tomorrow. Many are the same people that support Bernie got Obama elected, fought for equality, sent flowers to Barbara Boxer, marched against the wars.

Do you know that there are Clinton supporters this time that were Obama supporters last time? Did you know that there are former Clark and Dean supporters that fought tooth and nail in 2004 and fought together in 2008? That's the way it goes. It's better to focus on the big picture. Winning the primary is nice. Winning the GE matters. Getting a guaranteed Supreme Court justice changes things. Grudges don't.

There is a VERY large contingent of people who I've come to realize are my enemies, and it'd take a miracle on par with the second coming of a deity I haven't even believed in since I was 15 for me to consider them even close to an ally of mine.

It goes both ways. I have been a happy, paying member of DU for many years, and have done my part both here (as a moderator, host and member of MIRT) and on the streets, campaigning for Democrats from Bill Clinton on through Bernie. After this primary season (thanks, in part, to some of her more vocal, distasteful supporters) I don't want to be part of campaigning for a candidate (Hillary) who doesn't care about working-class women like me. I can't knock on a door and sell someone I don't believe in. Republicans do that. Not me.

Sorry, but I am an ally to actual Democratic values, and no, that doesn't make me a scary "bad" person.

http://davidbyrne.com/the-echo-chamber

By its nature, a social network is adept at creating in-groups that share similar likes and opinions. Like many people nowadays, followers of Trump (and other candidates) often get their news from social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook—which allows users to post articles and video from other sources. (TV is a big source of information, too, but then folks still gravitate to shows that project familiar and agreeable point of views.) The problem with Facebook and Twitter is that those platforms mostly present a point of view that you already agree with, since you only see what your “friends” are sharing. We all do this to some extent—your friends share news with you and presumably many of your friends share your viewpoints. The algorithms built into those social networks are designed to reinforce this natural human tendency and expand upon it—if you like this, you’ll like this. The networks reinforce your existing point of view in order to give you more of what you like, as that will make you happy and keep you on the network—and, in turn, more ads can be accurately targeted your way. You remain blissfully happy “knowing” or, rather, believing, more and more about less and less. Add that algorithm to folks’ natural inclination to seek points of view that confirm existing biases and you’ve got a potent combination. Once you’ve surrounded yourself with only one point of view, soon that point of view is all you hear.

REASON FOR ALERT

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.

ALERTER'S COMMENTS

So we have an upset user that is calling the DU a bunch of Communists. Isn't this the type of stuff that Skinner would like to clear out sooner rather than later?

You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Wed Jun 1, 2016, 10:06 AM, and the Jury voted 0-7 to LEAVE IT.

Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Alerter misread the content of the political poster in the alerted post. Is that clear or have I used post and poster in confusing ways?
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Oh Noes! Not the TRUTH!
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: I think it is time for this post to leave the site. DU is a business. A private business. No one is forced to be here. The Admin of this site making the best decision they can for their business does not reflect on America at large. A broad attack on the site by tying it a Dictatorial Conspiracy strikes me as someone who no longer believes in the Democratic Party - or the Democratic Underground. I wish this poster well. They need a new home on the internet.
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Alerter is over-reaching. This is a really silly alert.
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given

As far as the (R). That's interesting. I wasn't aware that Republicans were for things like cities turning things like long standing and abandoned buildings into homeless shelters that are apartments & which also happen to offer free eduction and are self reliable with huge gardens for a food supply. I also wasn't aware that Republicans were for things like a basic income for every person in America that everyone gets.

But if you want to go with that, please be my guest.
