Scathingly long article on Jane Sanders total fuck up of Burlington College

https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2014/08/25/costly-campus-and-erratic-enrollment-strategies-have-vermont-college-edge

The college is 15 or so students away from its fall 2014 enrollment goal of 180 students. That shortfall -- the equivalent of a much larger enrollment deficit for a larger institution -- translates into roughly $400,000 that the college will have to strip from its budget, Burlington College President Christine Plunkett said. “We’re hoping not to cut any positions, but we’ll absolutely be looking at benefits,” she said. “That’s a hard pill for people to swallow."

$10,000,000+ in debt and hundreds of thousands in additional penalties and taxes for 200 ish students? $27,000 annual tuition for woodworking? OMFG.

Enrollment shrinking, lies to obtain the loans, inefficient, incompetent decisions, irresponsible mismanagement...and she does taxes too!!! Or maybe not.

I haven't really followed this story bc I tend to think the families of candidates should be largely left alone, but...that is a LOT of money if true. That points to serious incompetence.

Jane has been serving on the Sanders campaign, receives payment from the campaign and is a regular media spokesperson. On one of the other articles I'd read, they also mentioned Bernie in the Burlington College scandal.

so that ISN'T "$10 mil in debt"

MATH!

No wonder you don't see any problems for Hillary, you are too partisan to sort out simple facts and math.

See you in Philly!

Based on his recent appearances Jane seems to be keeping a much lower profile in his campaign of late, which is probably wise.

Nobody's really found a way to make the finances work for colleges focusing on non-traditional students (other than the exploitative vultures like DeVry). Larger cities can sometimes make them work (c.f. Strayer in DC) particularly if they are extension programs of larger traditional universities (think GMU also in DC), but it's really hard and it never "works" quite as well as people want it to.

That said, kicking Mrs. Sanders at this point seems a little classless. The college was in a bad position, and she didn't perform a miracle. Let it go at that.
