(135,425 posts)Nowadays, I wouldn't be surprised if Trump hires people to protest, so he can "throw them out."
Sort of like the WWF.....

(2,329 posts)How many people hear DT talk about Mexicans and Latinos being criminals and thugs, then see protests with a bunch of Mexican flags where people are assaulted and property damaged, and decide what he says is true?

(2,124 posts)believe it, we will get tarred and feathered with it if this continues.
Trump will be able to run a law and order campaign and say I told you so.

(45,056 posts)who supports Trump in San Jose? Anyone? Sorry, I can't bring myself to give a fuck.
Now if you were the person who had eggs thrown at them in San Jose I will certainly try to sooth you as best I can.
. There. There. That was not a nice thing that person did to you, thank god it wasn't pepper spray.

But either way, yeah, Trump has to love it.

(10,476 posts)This isn't a war-loving Bush or a Communist-hating Reagan here, someone that you just disagree with...even if that disagreement is stark.
Donald Trump is creating a fascist movement, he is telling...not insinuating, not hinting, but in forthright plain language...his white, male followers that they are under direct threat and in danger of extinction, or at best cultural irrelevance. "The Mexicans are taking your jobs!", "the Muslims are tearing down your churches!", "the women are making your workplace into a safe space!", and so on.
This is dangerous, fascist, demagoguery, not just a simple political divide, and it must be met and resisted by whatever means are deemed necessary.

(34,845 posts)Those are sucker-punch-like actions. There need to be smarter ways to show one's utter disgust with Trump and the GOP.

(5,400 posts)Why not throw flowers? Preach love and acceptance? Trump bullies are no longer scandalous news, they are just part and parcel of an electorate that has activists on both sides who are willing to break the law.
I wouldn't be surprised to hear that Trump security made it easier for this to happen, and/or provided an area for it to happen in a contained manner for maximum media exposure.
We should be very grateful no Trump supporter kids got bumped or bruised. Once again, we'd have become the violent left.
Do we remember how some towns wisely handled things when, for example, the Klan marched? They jeer and mock, they maintain the higher ground. Sure, if you have to defend yourself, defend yourself. But this wasn't that.
In my neck of the woods Sanders supporters protested at a Trump rally. It was all signs and chants, people wore flowers and were polite.

What a beautiful bunch, I'm so proud (please watch some of the video). Lol, I was canvassing for Sanders on the outskirts of the village that day, Trump's helicopter was buzzing overhead all day, ominously, some might say.
And yeah, it wasn't a huge stretch to think of that famous piece of film from the 1930s.

We own the American flag as much as Trump does.

(12,265 posts)I don't put anything past this guy. He has used "drama" all his life to get what he wants, this is no different. I think a lot of things that happen at his events are staged so he gets more free publicity, especially since he appears to be running low on cash right now.

(23,371 posts)My own sense is that it will not help Trump if his rallies become experienced as being unsafe. I think that it will reinforce the image of Trump as on the fringes and may disrupt attempts to normalize him as a sort of "regular" candidate.

I do not know who these people are or why they did, if they are even political or even offended, or just fuckers.
So, simply, regardless, it is wrong.

(11,619 posts)Food as protest tool has a long history, of course. Perhaps the first recorded food protest took place in 63 A.D., when Vespasianthen the governor of Africa, later emperorwas pelted with turnips by the people of Hadrumetum, who may have been angry about food shortages.
BootinUp
(47,141 posts)there was more than food that was thrown, fists as well.

(11,619 posts)This did not happen with other Republican Candidates. We do not see repeated violent protests at Sanders or Clinton's appearances.
Trump lionizes violence, and there is nothing like a bit of violence to capture the news cycle. Now I can't prove it, but I have considered that violence at his rallies is part of his business plan to win the media and get elected.

(26,325 posts)They're pissed off for being called rapists and murderers. They are feeling disrespected for having the trump goons show up in their neighborhood.
This may be political in the broadest sense but it sure ain't electoral politics.
This is how shit spirals out of control and fascists get elected.

(1,258 posts)inappropriately. Often happens in a mob mentality, people do things they wouldn't do if they were on their own. I hope the police or local politicians find ways to keep the groups separate.

(5,400 posts)The personal, as everyones so fucking fond of saying, is political. So if some idiot politician, some power player, tries to execute policies that harm you or those you care about, take it personally. Get angry. The Machinery of Justice will not serve you here it is slow and cold, and it is theirs, hardware and soft-. Only the little people suffer at the hands of Justice; the creatures of power slide from under it with a wink and a grin. If you want justice, you will have to claw it from them. Make it personal. Do as much damage as you can. Get your message across. That way, you stand a better chance of being taken seriously next time. Of being considered dangerous. And make no mistake about this: being taken seriously, being considered dangerous marks the difference - the only difference in their eyes - between players and little people. Players they will make deals with. Little people they liquidate. And time and again they cream your liquidation, your displacement, your torture and brutal execution with the ultimate insult that its just business, its politics, its the way of the world, its a tough life and that its nothing personal. Well, fuck them. Make it personal.

It's by the fictional character Quellcrist Falconer. She's an infuriating character, because we find her to be both uncomfortably right, and uncomfortably wrong. I do not want to live in her future, but I sometimes find myself fearing that I am, and that she makes a lot of sense.
