(714 posts)I have had wonderful, positive response to just about everyone I talked to today...The President's supporters are FIRED UP! I do not believe the lack of enthusiasm crap the MSM is spreading.. GOTV!!!!!

(23,448 posts)That's 60% to 40% lead in EV. And I'm a part of GOTV on another state and we're working feverishly. The support effort is like a little army.
NC GOTV EV results as of 11/04/12.

(290 posts)I always here about the other minorities but never Asians. It's as if they are too small to matter as a voting block. I'm sure they'd be Democrats too and I understand there may not be many asians in NC but you also see the same across entire USA. It's like Asians don't exist as voters.
I have heard though from school days that Asians have no interest in voting in US elections and so just ignore it entirely. Really strange to me.

(4,686 posts)They will play an important role in many key states... especially surprise, surprise... Virginia
Here's how the Asian vote breaks down.
2008
Obama 62%
McCain 35%
2004
Kerry 58%
Bush 41%
2000
Gore 54%
Bush 41%
By comparison 20 years ago:
1992
Bush 55%
Clinton 31%
Asians are becoming increasingly Democratic. They are currently the fastest growing major minority group in the country.

(11,119 posts)I had always assumed most Asians come from a culture in which starting a business is expected......so I thought they'd lean to the right.
So, were my assumptions some sort of stereotype?
JEB
(4,748 posts)people, Asian or otherwise, who run a true SMALL business realize that Democratic policies benefit them more than the pro-oligarch, corporate agenda of the Pukes.
aaaaaa5a
(4,686 posts)Barack Obama will carry every major minority group in the country on Tuesday.
The results (and turnout) will look like this.
Asians (4%) 65-35
Hispanics (10%) 70-30
African American (13%) 96-4
You see the growing problem the GOP has for the future. Its not just African Americans. All minority groups are leaving the party in droves.
If you think about it, an increasing Asian population is one reason why the Democrats have increased their hold on states like Hawaii, California, and Washington. One reason is education. Studies show that the more education a person has, the more likely they are to be democrats. By the time a person has a doctorate degree they are nearly 70% likely to vote for the democratic candidate. Asians (especially east Asians) are most likely to hold advanced degrees compared to any other major ethnic group.

(3,931 posts)If there is any stereotyping in your assumptions, I think that may have been.
Some people realize that starting a business involves a lot of support from the community and isn't just an individual effort. A business can be as much of a social endeavor as it is an economic one.
Don't fall for the propaganda - small business owners don't vote in lock step with the Republicans.

(46,192 posts)they are as diverse or more than Hispanics.
Asians can be Indian, Filipino, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc.

(50,566 posts)Asians tend to place a high value on education (yes, stereotype, but still), and voting Democratic fits in with that. Also, the most highly educated people tend to be Democratic voters.

back in 92, registering voters, I was surprised so many were for Bush 1.
These days, it's flipped as your numbers show.

(46,192 posts)there are only so many states where their numbers are sufficient to draw conclusions from the polls, but they've been tracking the voting and trends of Asian Americans for a while now.

(601 posts)I don't think I've ever seen any stats about how Asian-Americans vote or have voted.

(10,056 posts)Then this will be a crushing victory for Obama and likely for down ticket democrats as well.
I can only hope that this changes election politics for the better.
Heavy turn out by African-Americans and Latinos will move this country forward.
fingers crossed!

oswaldactedalone
(3,605 posts)gives the Repigs a big advantage on election day. In NC, during the early voting period, you still have to cast your ballot in the county you live in. 2/3 of counties in NC are red, and early voting isn't very convenient in those counties. It's much easier to vote in a local precinct on election day in the red counties.
Blue counties tend to much more urban and have lots of early voting locations which makes it advantageous to vote early. OFA is working very hard to get occasional voters to the polls on Tuesday. It isn't easy, for example, my list today had 58 voters on it. 20 had moved, and I was only to reach 13 of the other 38.

(23,448 posts)But with record turnout, I'd get up super early and stand in the dark for two hours, so that it was over and done with. Nothing worse then getting stuck out in heavy lines and cut off, like in OH 2004.

(89 posts)Dems gave up on NC. Currently it's extremely close with Romney +3 in RCP. But in the last election Obama out performed his RCP average. Yet this time the Dems didn't put much effort in NC. All you need in NC is an extremely high African American turnout to overcome that +3.
It's a shame Dems didn't push harder but NC could still surprise everyone and go blue.
