Sanders campaign accuses L.A. city councilman of blocking event at Greek

Sen. Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign has accused a Los Angeles city councilman who backs Hillary Clinton of obstructing his effort to stage a weekend campaign event at the city-owned Greek Theatre in the Hollywood Hills.

The campaign sent an announcement to supporters Friday saying its plan for staging a get-out-the-vote concert at the Greek had been abandoned and relocated to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum Olympic Plaza in South Los Angeles. The campaign also suggested that favoritism was being shown to the campaign of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who has her own event planned at the Greek on Monday.

“Unfortunately, after reaching terms with the professional staff at the Greek to host our rally, interference from a local Los Angeles city councilman forced us to move from this iconic venue, even though Secretary Clinton has scheduled an identical event two days later — an event to which no objection has been raised,” the Sanders campaign message said.

A Sanders campaign aide was more explicit in an email to the Greek, saying that Councilman David Ryu, who represents the Greek and the surrounding neighborhood, had set up “roadblocks” that caused the venue to be changed. Ryu has endorsed Clinton and attended a fundraiser for her last month in Koreatown.

Ryu spokesman Estevan Montemayor called those messages “an inaccurate depiction of the last 24 hours” — saying the councilman’s office had been trying to help the campaign stage a successful event. Sanders’ campaign did not have a ticketing system or a plan for addressing traffic congestion, which is required of every group that holds a rally or concert at the Greek, Montemayor said.

“Any person or organization that chooses to have an event at the Greek Theatre needs to follow all the same guidelines," Montemayor said. “The Sanders campaign was asked to work with L.A. city staff on a traffic mitigation plan and a ticketing system, just as the Clinton campaign has done for their event on Monday evening. The Sanders campaign chose not to move forward, all while the city held resources for tomorrow’s event.”

2. Why is everything always Hillary's fault when something goes wrong for Sanders?

The Greek Theatre is not that big and requires ticketing so that it and it's environs (rare landscaping and parking) are not overwhelmed.

Sanders' campaign wanted to hold a free event. The huge crowd would overwhelm the facility, not to mention the crowd safety factor.

Clinton's event, days later, was already scheduled, and is to be a ticketed event with a crowd appropriate to the size of the facility.

It is not the fault of the Clinton campaign that Sanders' organizers did not familiarize themselves with the rules and required crowd-size restraints of the venue.

will NEVER, EVER vote for Hillary.

If that was his intention, he has succeeded.

Do you think that Hillary can defeat Trump without the Bernie 47-50% of the Party?

6. I believe you speak for yourself. Undoubtedly there are others that feel the same way . . .

but I doubt that the majority of Sanders supporters won't vote blue on election day.

Most are sensible people who don't want the repugs appointing the next 3-4 SCOTUS justices.

Trump, the fraud university founder, racist, the anti-immigrant, anti-disabled, anti-woman carnival barker will lose spectacularly.

8. And Sanders accomplished a lot in his 25 years of being part of the establishment . . .

he loves to distance himself from.

The following is from a post of Hekate's on another thread:

Los Angeles Times printed a recent California poll that bears you out

65% of Sanders supporters are willing to vote for Clinton in November
10% said they'd vote for Trump
13% won't vote

Sounds to me like 65% of Sanders supporters are Democrats and/or adults who recognize the threat Trump poses to our country.

You BoBs are not the majority of Sanders supporters. You just think you are.

3. We Sanders campaigners had a great rally at the Coliseum.

Most of us, including me at 73 years, stood for about four or five hours, but the rally was great.

Ryu has just insured that a lot of Los Angeles' Sanders supporters will NEVER, EVER, EVER vote for Hillary.

I hope he is proud of himself.

The ticketing and other rules are not necessary. As a Sanders supporter, I rode the Metro to USC the Coliseum as did many, many other Sanders supporters. We don't need tickets because we are not a rowdy bunch. Never met a more harmonious, peaceful bunch of people than the Sanders supporters at rallies and in campaigning.

So Cal is really getting the treatment this year and there are Bill Hill and Bernie events all over! About the Greek, I just checked and Hillary's is a fund raiser and the remaining seats are kind of pricey. So it doesn't surprise me that they turned down a late event.

the reasons were for the ticketing, but you are sure it is some evil conspiracy and somehow Clinton is to blame.

This is really getting old.

against him around every corner. I'm beginning to think the dude is paranoid. Poor guy. He is the definition of a sore loser. What's next, will he take his ball and go home?

I'll be happy when Tuesday is over and we have our nominee. Bernie is already mostly ignored by the media anyway now because he lost the primary by millions of votes and hundreds of pledged delegates. It looks like Bernie is having delusions of grandeur and thinks he can force the SD's to switch to him and nullify the votes of millions of people. How democratic of him. I hope he is not deranged and will come to his senses soon. I still have a little faith that sanity will prevail and he will do what is right, and not what is selfish.
