2016 Postmortem

Which would you rather pass on to your family, a hand grenade or a time bomb?
Hillary is the hand grenade. She's very reliable. Just pull the pin when needed. Wars are just fine with Hillary, as long as the wars are "necessary". And Hillary has not yet seen an unnecessary war.
Trump is the time bomb. Unpredictable, and liable to go off at any time, with devastating results. Many wars, no wars. Who can say? Who can predict?
So which do you prefer, the hand grenade or the time bomb?
I choose neither! I choose peace. That's why I will support Bernie until the convention, and beyond.
No more wars, please.

(889 posts)Yes, goodbye to my pro-Bernie comments after Skinner closes down the debate. I'll still post as the mood strikes me, but I'll respect the rules of this forum.
And also goodbye to my vote in November should Hillary be the nominee, as seems likely. I'll be entering the voting booth with my trusty write-in pencil. I will not vote for a warmonger!
Mock me if you will. And you should mock me if I were just some lone wolf. But there are hundreds of thousands, if not millions, who feel just as I do.

(889 posts)One can somewhat predict the future based on past evidence.
Let's put aside the tragic wars in Libya and Syria for a moment. I suggest that because both of those wars are consequences of the Iraq invasion.
Bush, Jr. is absolutely responsible for the Iraq war, and for all that came from it. He is a war criminal, and he should be in jail. But remember, Hillary voted for that war!
So either Hillary was fooled by Bush's lies, or she actually thought that the invasion was a good idea. Either way, it shows a huge flaw in judgment, one that cannot be cancelled by some apology years later.
But Bernie was NEVER fooled by Bush's lies, and he thought that the invasion was a BAD idea. So from that I can predict that Bernie will not drag us into any more Vietnams, and that he will use force only as a very, very last resort.

(94,373 posts)I was in Syria in 2012, and it was completely peaceful. What happened was the "Arab Spring" (which, I recall, most people here enthusiastically supported). The democratization of Tunisia (and temporarily in Egypt), led to movements for democracy in Syria and Libya which resulted in violent crackdowns. You're welcome to say that US should have left them on their own; it's not a position I subscribe to.

2011 March - Security forces shoot dead protestors in southern city of Deraa demanding release of political prisoners, triggering violent unrest that steadily spread nationwide over the following months.

13. I disagree that Libya and Syria were "consequences of the Iraqi invasion"

(36,063 posts)The Neocons haven't been his friend late in the election, but the Neocons seem able to live with HRC even while they try to gin up an alternative to Trump.
I don't see Trump as being a war-starter so much as bluster-mouthed guy selling his bully attitude to domestic consumers.
Everyone seems to fear him because he's "dangerous", I think his dangerousness is a lot like his pomposity...almost completely noise.

(889 posts)I chose "Shemp Howard" because he was one of my favorite comedians. Since you didn't recognize that name, I'm guessing that you're a youngster, less than 60 years old.
