They won't let the Bernie poll workers be certified.

They had the vote schedule for Sunday, when people go to church.

They are GOING TO CLOSE AT 3 P.M.

They reduced the polling places from over a thousand to a little over 400!

They MADE TWO POLLING PLACES NECESSARY TO VOTE INSTEAD ON ONE, AS ORIGINALLY PLANNED. NOW THEY HAVE ONE POLLING PLACE FOR LOCAL ELECTIONS, AND ANOTHER POLLING VOTE FOR PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES WHICH DRASTICALLY CUT THE NUMBER OF POLLWORKERS AVAILABLE TO HANDLE BOTH LOCATIONS.

If any of you are a real person with any integrity whatsoever, you can see that this election has been made into a grand theft for HRC.

And you know it in your hearts....if still beating that is.

Sanders condemns pro-austerity “colonial takeover” of Puerto Rico; Clinton supports it.

Bernie calls U.S. debt crisis plan "morally unacceptable" and a gift for "vulture capitalists."

Hillary backs it.

AND.....the Democratic Party never said the reduction of polling places was due to Puerto Rico's debt.

52. PR may be dead broke but the way they setup the democrat polls is deplorable.

This is why. They are using their debt as an excuse for why they are closing so many polling places. They wanted to integrate both the presidential and local elections on the same day to save money. One might think, yeah thats a great idea to save money! Except they didn't really integrate them. They are simply having two elections on the same day at different locations. So you have to go vote at both locations between 8am and 3pm, wait in incredibly long lines because there are so few polling stations, and may never get the chance to actually vote. It is blatant VOTER SUPPRESSION. To call it ANYTHING different is a disservice to American voters everywhere.

other to the effect of taking the onus off the voters who are innocent of fraud, when it's the state officials that conducts fraud, or voter suppression etc.

156. Good points that I will remember

for the future, but will try to make it zing a little.

Voter disenfranchisemenet and suppression sound so weak.. I wanted something that says that they are "stealing" votes from Bernie. That is a word most people understand.

There is no doubt that those who organized and controlled the voting in Puerto Rico, arranged it in such a way that thousands of votes were lost and/or stolen.

What makes this more horrible than the simple fact of it, is that the MSM is STILL not reporting it properly.

I am so very angry about what is happening.

the polls WOULD NOT CERTIFY the Bernie Sanders pollworkers who were supposed to monitor the HAND COUNTING OF THE WRITTEN BALLOTS.

There was nothing "fair and square" about it.

It's very funny indeed to see all the posts here on DU of people you make assumptions, but did not even take the time to watch the video. Some people here seem to think it's funny to distort the truth.

Wonder what happens when the next war comes along. How many young people are going to want to go to fight, be maimed for life, and/or die for Democracy?

163. You are perpetrating false views of this event.

Firstly, there is voter suppression, and that is obvious by every view and story on this topic.

Secondly, the Bernie pollworkers WERE PREVENTED FROM BEING CERTIFIED AND WERE NOT ALLOWED INTO THE POLLING PLACES.

Thirdly, the polling place addresses were changed almost daily in the week before the election and people were confused about where to go.

Fourth: Those in control of the primary polling decided to do it on a Sunday in a Catholic country where many people go to church.

Fifth: They closed the polls at 3 p.m. and didn't even allow the first person to enter the polling place in some instances for more than an hour after the polls were supposed to open.

Sixth: After announcing there would be about 2,000 polling places, a few weeks ago it was changed to a little over 400 for over 80,000 voters.

Seven: The prisoners who voted did a "hand count vote" but Bernie pollworkers were not allowed inside.

Eighth: The polling locations were changed at the last minute and very few people knew what to do and where to go. The polling was changed to not one, but TWO places. One for the local elections. The second for the presidential elections. TV video of voters expressing confusion and anger are available for you if you want to know....you know....the TRUTH!

You hide your head in the sand on this, but then the truth may not be as important as "winning". If you were playing sports, there is an excellent chance that you would be benched for your tactics.

For your own sake, WAKE UP!!!!

could not get their vote counted because of the disenfranchisement and non certification of the poll workers for Bernie...As I have said continuously through this primary she has been coronated and they have been cheating the vote, switching the percentages, disenfranchising the voters, and they say she has won or winning before the count is done... She is three million ahead bullshit and bullshit with the delegate count too in many states. RIGGED!

18. You mean the ballot boxes stolen by the Sanders campaign, right?

http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/dem-primaries/282237-puerto-rico-democratic-party-denies-wrongdoing-in-primary

"Inmate voting is handled not by the Democratic Party but by the Commonwealth's Absentee and Advance Vote Administrative Board," Prats said. "I have been told that the Sanders campaign submitted their prison pollworker list at 6:10 pm on the evening prior to inmate voting and began complaining early in the following morning that the Board had not completed their pollworker's certification. But in the end, despite the late submittal, the Sanders campaign had representatives at the prison voting places."

He also accused the Sanders campaign of stealing two boxes of ballots that had been cast by prisoners before delivering them to an election office.

20. I put this in a Hill post but got no comment so I'll lay it here.

Whether they're voting for her or for him.

Our election processes are fucked up.......on purpose. No one cares. Republicans blame Democrats, Democrats blame Republicans. I am a Democrat and the silence from this Party has been stifling and obvious. I have 0 fucks to give about what Republicans have to say about it, they're doing what Republicans do.

What's OUR excuse?.........*crickets*

*****************

In Las Piedras, PR there is only one person working. People waited for 2 hours for the voting booth to open. A lot of people have left. I have been waiting for half an hour and you see how many people are still waiting to vote. Oh, and there is only one voting place in all Las Piedras...

Just as with the area of NY that had the 126K voters purged. Hillary won that area with 65% of the vote. She would have taken one more of Bernie's delegates. To the people of PR, Bernie is a white guy from a white state that has never helped them. Hillary does have some track record if helping them.

Puerto Rico Slashes Polling Places For The Democratic Primary, Laying The Groundwork For Chaos

BY ALICE OLLSTEIN JUN 3, 2016 11:06 AM

In early May, Puerto Rico’s Democratic Party announced that more than 1,500 polling places would be available for the island’s June 5 Democratic primary. A few weeks later, they slashed that number to just over 430 — a reduction of more than two thirds.

In 2008, the island’s last competitive Democratic primary, there were more than 2,300 polling places.

Some are warning of long lines and voters left unable to access the ballot box, as an estimated 700,000 Puerto Ricans will vote this Sunday, and polling places will only be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m..

Worse, many voters will have to visit two separate locations to cast ballots in the presidential primary and the local primaries held the same day. Voter turnout and engagement has for years been much higher on the island than in the 50 U.S. states, but these changes may present too heavy a burden for low-income residents who lack transportation options or who need to work...

But that has to be seen in the context of a major political party sort of yanking the reins of a local entity like Puerto Rico. Can you imagine the outcries if the DNC tried to run polling places themselves, or funded them?

This may be a situation where Puerto Rico has to run its own affairs.

Not one person thought enough to say - you know, we have a problem here, let's work together so PEOPLE CAN VOTE. We actually care about democracy and will not put it on hold due to <words>.

This doesn't just apply to PR although it does today but Anywhere, USA. It's like no one cares. GOP wants to disenfranchise. Democrats just sit shotgun in the front seat.

I could see a sort of slush fund being established -either nationally or by party participation- that would help in situations like this. We should always be expecting the unexpected. There have always been problems with elections and there will always be problems with elections.

A slush fund that was monitored and run in a non-partisan manner. Pretty soon Brownback's Kansas debacle will be in the same situation as Puerto Rico.

It's like a 3rd rail right there with Social Security - betta not touch it.

PR is poor. I think I read 60% of their citizens are on some type of public assistance. They are up to their neck in debt and reminds me of Greece in its own way.

I don't know if I'd go the local route (state or county) - too much corruption. Any funds would be used explictly for polling places, ballot shortages - hardship proven.

There is a solution. Why aren't we working on it together?

I'd be fully in favor of making PR a new state. Same with Washington DC.

Polling problems get complicated when each state wants to control its own processes but yeah, we could start working on changing that kind of attitude. Dangle some money in front of them. Sanders has had a close look at how the voting process works. Maybe he could lead the way on reform.

51. How does the logic work that if Clinton disenfranchises voters

those voters are magically ONLY Bernie voters? How does she not loose out in this too? Do you think all people that get tired of waiting at the polls are all Bernie supporters? What does that do to the narrative that there is an enthusiasm gap for Hillary if only Sanders supporters get tired of waiting. I also read in GD : P a lot that Hillary only has the older voters... older voters less likely to stand on line for hours to vote. So, really, Clinton should be the one screaming about this, not Sanders because it makes absolutely no sense that Bernie's overly enthusiastic supporters wouldn't wait on line to cast their vote for him.

Or you know, you could go with the simpler answer: Puerto Rico is broke. They couldn't find the money (or people) to run those additional polling places they shut down so they have as many polling places open as they can afford and/or man.

Finally, it's not Clinton, the DNC's or even Bernie's fault that people don't want to wait to vote. That's on the person making the decision, even in the face of hardship, that it just isn't worth the wait. In the United States, I've waited on line for up to 5 hours to cast my vote for Gore because my precinct at the time wasn't prepared for the numbers of people coming to vote at their usually very inactive polling place. I waited, because I wanted to make sure Gore got my vote but I could have just as easily walked across the street and gone home. Same thing in 2008 happened in Florida and other places I can't recall. We need to make changes to our voting system to make things easier, make it a federal law to allow early voting in all states, and I think voting my mail is the way of the future. No lines, can vote at your leisure, etc. However, politicians in general do not want voting made easier (otherwise election day would be a national holiday) because if too many people participated, some of said politicians would lose their comfy jobs if it were easier to vote.

168. Regarding the voter suppression in Arizona

In the Arizona 2016 Democratic primary, Maricopa County, the largest county in Arizona, reduced the number of polling places open on Election Day compared to 2012 from over 200 to 60, and consequently people spent entire work days waiting in line to vote, as voting lines stretched for over half a mile. Undoubtedly, many of them had to leave before voting, in order to avoid missing work.

According to The Maricopa County website statistics Clinton won the early voting part of the election in Maricopa County 118,832 to 71,019, over Sanders, a margin of 66.1% to 33.9%. The Election Day voting, which Bernie won by 19,883 to 12,802, shows us two very significant things. First, that Bernie won the voting on Election Day over Clinton by 60.8% to 39.2% in Maricopa County, quite a difference from the early voting margins. And second, it shows us that Election Day voting in Maricopa County accounted for only 14.7% of the total vote.

In addition, there were tons of Democratic voters who were not allowed to vote because election officials claimed that they were not registered as Democrats, even though the voters knew themselves to be registered as Democrats before coming to the polls. An investigation, reported in an article titled: “Anonymous Report: Was Arizona’s Voter Registration Hacked and Changed?”, searched the Internet to find all the claims that they could of voters who were disenfranchised in this way, and they attempted to ascertain their preferred candidate, by phone if they could, and otherwise from the Internet claim. The investigation identified 113 Sanders would-be voters who reported their registration being purged or changed, 2 Clinton would-be voters, and 12 Republican would be-voters.

Keep in mind that this is not the extent of those who were disenfranchised in this way. These are only the claims that Anonymous could find on the Internet. Anonymous gives an example of the extent of the disenfranchisement by pointing to Phoenix (a big part of Maricopa County), which has a Democratic mayor, where 80,000 Republicans voted on Election Day, compared to only 33,000 Democrats.

The purge was clearly targeted at Sanders.

170. It is a VERY disproportional effect

Add that to the fact that Clinton surrogates have control in numerous states over the voting apparatus, the millions of voters disenfranchised this primary season, and the fact that they insist on reviewing provisional ballots secretly, so that nobody knows which ones they decide not to count or why they decide not to count them, and you have a situation where it is impossible to have confidence in the results that are reported to us.

Now we see in California that poll workers throughout the state were instructed to make it as difficult as possible for NPP (no party preference) voters to vote. It is known that these voters voter very heavily for Bernie.
http://www.gregpalast.com/california-stolen-sanders-right-nowspecial-bulletin-greg-palast/#more-12053

I did not attempt to link any of this to Hillary. I have my own opinions on that, but I'll keep them to myself because I have no proof either way. We do not know who is responsible for this, and I will not accuse anyone in particular. But it is quite clear that there has been massive voter suppression in these primaries and that they have been targeted at Bernie would-be voters.

Yesterday in the Virgin Islands because they had to physically show up at a caucus meeting and raise their hand in order to count their vote.
Clinton: 84%
Sanders: 12%

72. I am so sick and tired of this crap

We've seen this kind of crap happen in one primary after another all year long. Massive voter suppression, targeted against one candidate; fake audits where hand counts differ from machine counts and election workers revise their counts by taking votes away from one candidate and giving them to another, to coincide with the black box machine that counted our votes; massive and consistent exit poll deviations from official vote counts which which cry out for fraud investigations, and yet nothing is done about it; strong armed abuse of power at the Nevada State convention, caught on videotape, to get more delegates for the same candidate who has benefited from these things all year long.

And what is the response? Our national corporate "news" media says not a word about it. The Democratic Party says not a word about it, except to accuse Sanders supporters of violence when they engage in peaceful protests against it. From Clinton supporters at this and many other sites, many of them paid, we get insults like "crybaby" and "conspiracy theorist" hurled at anyone who wants to talk about this theft of our democracy. Or they laugh about it. Or they repeatedly point out that their candidate has more delegates than the candidate who is the victim of all this.

And still we are supposed to believe that the candidate who draws record breaking enthusiastic crowds wherever he goes is losing a fair election to a candidate who can barely fill a gymnasium for her rallies.

Well I for one will never vote for anyone who is the beneficiary of such blatant fraud, no matter who she runs against. Our rapidly fading democracy is too important to condone this kind of thing.

After what I have seen I will never vote for Hillary. Never. In many ways I agree with Susan Sarandon who said Hillary is more dangerous than Trump...though I won't vote for him either.

But she's the one who knows the paths to destruction and war very well and would take off running as soon as she hits the ground.

100. I listened to a videotape by Robert Reich a few days ago

He is an ardent Bernie supporter, for much the same reasons that I am.

But in the videotape he tried to convince his audience to vote for Hillary in the GE if she is the nominee. He made some convincing arguments, mainly centered on the possibility of a Trump presidency, and I was beginning to feel a bit convinced.

But then the reality of the massive election fraud we've seen this primary season came back to me. Reich didn't even touch on that subject. It is a taboo subject, and almost nobody of any standing with our corporate "news" media will say anything about it.

I don't get it. I would love to talk with him about it, just to know what his thoughts are on it. Does he just shut it out of his mind because it is a taboo subject? Or is he fully aware of it, but doesn't think it is important enough to justify the possibility of a Trump presidency. Or does he just feel that it is not his area of expertise, so he won't talk about it?

I have never witnessed a presidential GE in my life where the phrase "lesser of two evils" comes more to mind (that is, if the two presumptive nominees are nominated and don't have to run against another viable candidate).

But election fraud is just too evil for me to stomach. Every other conceivable horror stems from it -- as during the Bush II presidency. I will not condone it -- instead I will hang on to the rapidly fading hope that we can re-establish some kind of democracy in this country.

109. Long lines do not equal election fraud

If the lines were intentional and they were designed to favor one candidate over the other you could call that fraud. The cut of polling places was made for financial reasons. There is no reason to believe the lines benefited Hillary at the expense of Bernie. There is no reason at all to believe that Hillary was involved in the decision to cut the number of polling places.

Is it legitimate to call it their "team" when it looks more like a very dirty game of tricks?

I'm serious when I ask you this. I respect your opinion, and frankly I'm devastated by this election and the blatant lies and disrespect I see on DU. I've had several of my posts locked for what I see as no reason, except that someone entered the post and made it qualified to be locked by tactics designed to have it locked. So what happens to my message? It goes down the toilet because dirty tricks are part of what is allowed, both here and in the elections.

Sorry, if I seem awfully upset and passionate, but really...I am on the brink of something I never thought I'd do in my lifetime because I am so deeply depressed and discouraged.

Hope. I'm looking for hope. Bernie brings me hope...not just for me but for MILLIONS...which means our country can be reborn into something to be proud of again.

I am old. I am 73 years old, have a business and and a farm and I work my ass off every day. I want a decent, honest life and I want my government to be people who represent the people. That's all I really want.

although I confess that I will register as one thing or another to vote in the FL primary. For example, years ago I registered as a Repug in the first election of GWB. I was in near hysterics that he would be the nominee, whom I saw as the epitome of evil.

I worked hard to keep him out but we lived through so many disasters during his presidency and afterwards.

And that is what I'm afraid of now. HRC is a woman who will take us down paths that will destroy our citizen's ability to live a decent, healthy, and peaceful life.

It was she and Wall St. that made it possible for Wall St. vulure predators to swoop into Puerto Rico and rip them off when they were most vulnerable.

Friday, May 27, 2016 03:38 PM EST

Sanders condemns pro-austerity “colonial takeover” of Puerto Rico; Clinton supports it.

Bernie calls U.S. debt crisis plan "morally unacceptable" and a gift for "vulture capitalists."

Hillary backs it.

Don't you see with that brain of yours, that the vote by Clinton to allow the Wall St. vultures to go into Puerto Rico and "manage" their debt, was a blow to the economy of Puerto Rico? I imagine the public must see the news there and must know about her position. I'll bet they have an opinion about how much she cares about Puerto Rico compared to Wall St.

And Bernie was passionately against it, saying that Wall St. would effectively "colonize" Puerto Rico.

I'm sure at this juncture that you don't know much about the disatrous deals that have been foisted on Puerto Rico lately, with Clinton very much in favor.

I'm not going to do any more research just for you. Use that brain to get online and see what's going on in Puerto Rico.

Also look for the incredibly egregious Hillary approved deal that made it possible for financial deals to be made so that the economy can be repeatedly ripped off and money hidden there by those same thieves. Really. It's been in the news lately and reported widely.

primary/caucus systems as well as for our national
elections, but I doubt that either party would allow
for that.

Even, if Carter were younger, I bet you that he would
be stopped in such an effort.

My main prediction is that these so called "mistakes',
"errors" and unexplained purges will drive voters away
from the parties. In this case from the "democratic"one.

After all, the repugs did not have any problems this year;
exit polls corresponded to results within the narrow
acceptable limit.

The other very "interesting"observation is that this did
not happen to that extent in 08. Funny that!

http://www.democraticunderground.com/1280207891 :

U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders’ campaign issued the following statement Sunday on long lines at polling places in Puerto Rico’s Democratic Party presidential primary election:

“Some Puerto Rico Democratic officials are claiming that the Sanders campaign requested fewer polling places in today’s primary contest. That’s completely false. The opposite is true. In emails with the party, Sanders’ staff asked the party to maintain the 1,500 plus presidential primary locations promised by the Puerto Rico Democratic party in testimony before the DNC in April, when the party was asking to have its caucus changed to a primary. They cannot blame their shoddy running of the primary on our campaign. This is just one example of irregularities going on in Puerto Rico voting today. We are the campaign that has been fighting to increase voter participation.”
