jeff47
(26,549 posts)Sanders now has a massive donor list.
That makes him very, very popular.
Respectfully, jeff47, Senator Sanders' "massive donor list" should be looked at with a cold analysis. The vast majority of his donors gave very small amounts of money, i.e., less than $100. It only takes one major donor giving $1,000,000 to put those small donations into perspective. That disparity of scale makes the major donor's influence far more powerful in the donor's impact. Senator Sanders does not have very many major donors.
Additionally, his most vocal supporters have made it clear that they will not vote for the Democratic nominee unless it's the Senator. This will not endear him to the Democratic Caucus in the Senate.
DLCWIdem
(1,580 posts)jeff47
(26,549 posts)Contribution limits? What are those?
The caucus in the senate wants cash. Sanders kept up with your $1,000,000 donors giving to Clinton until about the last month. That's a hell of a lot of donors. And votes.
There's a reason both Pelosi and Reid have refused to say anything bad about Sanders.

I was way to young to actually remember FDR. I was born when he wad our President. But I've heard a lot about his accomplishments and the dreams he still had for our country. Because of Bernie's popularity, it seems a lot of others haven't given up on getting our Party back to the days when they were really supporting the working man!

What better than a Frumpy, Grumpy, Socialist, Old Jewish Guy from some state near Russia where the molasses flows or something.
It really would have been a boring Primary with just Daily Notes From Hillary. What they did not expect, was the strong portion of the party that wasn't All Into Hillary or even a Little Bit. Either new or formerly disgusted stay-at-home voters, the Left, the Progressives, Anything Left of Center...fall into that category.
Nor did they factor in the "little review" that was going on at the time. Pffft. Cue the flick off the dandruff gif.
They were clued into the server during Benghazi, but it was pretty well hidden by State...nothing to see here.
Fast forward. We actually have democracy in progress (big emphasis on the little d) as we now move into uncharted territory. A BFD full FBI Investigation, lots of cover-ups and other things that would put Nixon's crew to shame. Meanwhile, the Old Tortoise plugging along while the Hare stops along the way to figure out what to do with Trump.
I have no idea what will transpire, but I'd bet money it won't be any traditional-type ending. And let's face it...such has been The Clinton's history...not your average American family. I really think Bernie just kind of stumbled into it...but rose to the occasion pretty darn well.
And he's far from being done. He may have found his calling...Revolutions never end with the first battle...won or lost. But the course has been charted.

Other than the one time I voted for Ross Perot, I have never voted for anyone other than a Democrat, but the DNC has soured me on the Party. Anyone remember Ross Perot? (that big giant sucking sound you will hear are jobs and factories leaving America - His response to Clinton's NAFTA). Looking back, I'd have to say he was prophetic. Just as Bernie was (and is, in terms of the TPP)
I've been a registered Dem since 96; voted for Clinton (even though my state went to Dole).

If you want to know who really hurt the Democrats you can look back to when they embraced the DLC. Guess who did that? Bill Clinton. He invited corporate funding to the party and that is what has hurt the Democrats.
Sanders has invigorated a campaign that would have been as boring as paint drying if Hillary had gotten the nomination just after it got started. Look at the crowds he has generated, how is that hurting Democrats?
The right wing of the party is just going to either get used the the left refusing to be sidelined anymore or they're going to have to get used to having about half the membership it has now because the people are fed up and Bernie has shown we don't need to be beholden to corporate money.
We're sick of that shit and we want the party to go back to its roots, where Bernie is trying to take it. This Third Way/DLC/neo-liberal shit has not only damaged the party - perhaps beyond repair if Hillary is the nominee - but it has damaged our very democracy by compromising the one party that actually used to defend it.
Looks to me like you think Hillary is going to lose somewhere down the line and you're just setting up to blame Bernie and his supporters. You can blame all Hillary's missteps and hubris for any demise she may encounter.

The Democratic Party got a big surprise with Bernie Sanders and, unfortunately for them, they gave him a great position from which to organize so many people in this country. If he'd run third party, he wouldn't have gotten to debate and he wouldn't have gotten even the grudging exposure in the mainstream media that he has gotten. Yep, the Democratic Party goofed up and huge numbers of people in this country are very thankful for that! Very thankful.

No matter how much you hate Sanders and people who support him, you should recognize that HRC needs the very people you are trashing to win. I do not get the need you and several others have not just to defeat Sanders, which was always a near sure thing, but to destroy him.
There may have been a few who were exuberant that with Obama winning the dominance of the Clintons in the Democratic party was over, but that never reached the fever pitch I see now - and that was extreme compared to past contests. I really saw no similar posts blasting Kuchinich for staying in until the 2004 convention.
Part of going to General Election mode, when we do, realistically has to be to heal the divisions in addition to getting behind the candidate. These attacks hurt that effort.
You and others may succeed in driving out the impure Sanders supporters, but consider if you really want to do that. You need their votes AND they might just represent the long term future of the party. Consider that with a very unlikely nominee, a 74 year old democratic socialist they were in the contest up to the last month of contests. It indicates that there is space for a future race from the left.
