If I were them, Id be screaming too because they know they will be toast by election day, Clinton said, according to a Fox News reporter at the event.

#BillClinton to @BernieSanders hecklers: "If I were them I'd be screaming too bc they know they will be toast by election day."
Bill Clinton was in East Los Angeles on Sunday campaigning ahead of the California primary on Tuesday.
The former secretary of State is in a tight race there with the Vermont senator.

(3,937 posts)Would it not make more sense to say "ON election day" or "on Tuesday" ?
If he really did say it, then it is yet another of the odd Clinton statements of 2016. Bill remarked about the "awful legacy of the last 8 years" and it seems a similar type of mistake -- timing:
If Bill meant the gridlock of a GOP congress then that happened 5 years ago. If he meant the entire Obama vs GOP that is 7 years.
What happened "8 years" ago was Hillary dropped out of the race. He seems to have caught his own mistake as he adds "and the 7 years before that" but it still odd to lump in the first 2 years of the Obama adminstration when we had congress.

(14,570 posts)We'd better have some MAJOR input in the platform and Clinton had better not veer right. Because I've had enough of Democrats who are only liberal on social issues, but continue to promote policies that suck our tax monies away from doing things that make our lives better only to give them to Wall Street and the MIC.
woolldog
(8,791 posts)...like that will matter. Clinton is going to govern the way she sees fit. And that's the way it should be.
Whats written in a platform doesn't mean a thing.
PatrickforO
(14,570 posts)spent months elevating the conversation, I'm not so sure. This time, maybe the platform won't be quite so meaningless.
And it shouldn't be meaningless. It should be a set of assertions that will guide members of our party as they move forward in office.
But, there is 'the way things ARE,' and there is 'the way things ought to be.'
Where are we, and who are we, that we so readily toss out the 'ought to be???'

(2,542 posts)But I don't think the OP is worried about a little thing like "context" though...
ETA: "Former President Bill Clinton did not mince his words when Bernie Sanders supporters heckled him during a campaign event for Hillary Clinton." So, it's not like it happened in a bubble or anything. Again, something the OP probably didn't want brought into the discussion, otherwise it would have been included in the OP.

(1,078 posts)How very Trumpian of him. Pres. Clinton and all HRC supporters and the entire DNC need to realize that they're going to NEED Bernie supporters in the GE. Not just their votes, most will toe the line after the convention if Hillary is our candidate.
But Hillary, et al will also NEED their donations, their perspective, their time, their hard work, their enthusiasm and their energy. And Hillary's not going to automatically get that because "party unity!", especially if so many keep taking digs at people who support Bernie at the moment.
Miles Archer
(18,837 posts)...Clinton will not be elected President in November strictly by the number of voters who are in her corner right now.
I see no chance of anything but the smallest possible percentage of Republican voters crossing over from Trump.
I am not familiar with her standing among Independents, but I have to believe there is division there rather than overwhelming support.
And Democrats? Go a head and insult the Sanders supporters, Mr. President. You will not win without them.

To me, he has been more of a liability than an asset on this current campaign.
There is less of a need for Sanders supporters to be "toast" and more of a need, if it comes to that, to vote for his wife.
This kind of rhetoric won't lead to that.

Meet Hillary Clinton's "Greatest Influence" on Military Issues, a Fox News Pundit Who Makes Money From War
A profile of Hillary Clinton in the latest issue of the New York Times Magazine makes the case, convincingly, that the Democratic frontrunner is the most hawkish candidate in the race, from her upbringing as the daughter of a Navy training officer to her disagreements, as secretary of state, with President Obama over use of force. The piece outlines her relationships with several powerful current and former members of the military, and notes that the single greatest influence on her thinking about the military is a retired George W. Bush-era four-star general named Jack Keane.

Fox News viewers may recognize Keane as one of the networks frequently consulted military analysts, a role he has used to call withdrawal from Iraq a disaster, to argue against closing Guantanamo Bay, and to call a 2014 Pentagon report on climate change evidence of a misguided priority in the Obama administration.
While campaigning for president, Clinton has called out Bernie Sanders for his criticisms of President Obama, despite her own frequent disagreements with the president on foreign policy issues. She has positioned herself as the candidate who would carry on the presidents legacy if elected. As the Times Magazine profile notes, she has said in national security speeches that her plans for dealing with threats in the Middle East represent an intensification and acceleration of the presidents, not a clean break from them.
But Keane, who has informally advised Clinton on military affairs for 15 years, dispenses tough-guy criticisms of the president regularly....

(13,616 posts)Hey, remember how your big, racist slur dropping mouth Cost Hillary the last time? If Debbie Wasserman Schulz were competent, she would be pouring you a nice big cup of STFU before you crash your wife's chances AGAIN. Do keep in mind, the more you run your mouth like some Frat Boy, the more you remind people that you will be an albatross around Hillary's neck. This is one election where many will NOT want what you once coined as a "package deal." Many voters will go "I'll take the Hillary Burger, but hold the Billy fries, they get me sick."

Bill was referring to Bernie's campaign. Period.
But this is a good example of how SBS supporters are always looking for an opportunity to identify a supposed wrongdoing.

(2,872 posts)There are so many options. We've been getting told by the Clinton campaign for the past three months what we can go do, where we can go do it, and what we can go do it with. I hope he's not surprised when we do promptly that, and leave the Democratic party to its corporate, neoliberal pseudo-reich wing takeover.
