Sanders gets Secret Service protection
By Eliza Collins
02/03/16 01:23 PM EST
Bernie Sanders is receiving Secret Service protection, the Department of Homeland Security confirmed to Politico on Wednesday.
Following an official request from the campaign, and after consultation with a congressional advisory committee pursuant to the statutorily prescribed process, Secretary of Homeland Jeh Johnson authorized United States Secret Service protection for presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, a spokeswoman from DHS said in an email.
In order for protection to begin, the DHS secretary must approve a request after reviewing a list of criteria and consulting a committee that includes the speaker of the House, the House minority leader, the Senate majority and minority leaders and an additional member the committee has chosen.

Maybe some of these fashionistas could drop her a lne about how true Democrats only ever wear sackcloth and ashes. That has been a persistant theme over many years here. Nonetheless, I notice St Bernie bought a new suit.

(43,891 posts)He famously told the Saturday Evening Post, "I am not a liberal at all, Im not comfortable with those people.
He called for an increase in military spending, specifically missile production. We must refuse to accept a cheap, second-best defense."
On taxes he warned that high-tax rates reduce the financial incentives for personal effort, investment, and risk-taking.
He slashed tariffs to promote free trade.
He wasn't a big supported of federal assistance to the needy. I do not believe that Washington should do for the people what they can do for themselves through local and private effort.

(15,805 posts)Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump likes Brioni suits, but no one chastised him. Republicans knocked Michelle Obama for wearing designer labels, and now we have this OP who thinks the Democratic presidential nominee, Hillary Clinton, should not be allowed to buy designer clothing.
Given that the presidential candidates are spending hundreds of millions of dollars campaigning for the Presidency, quibbling over the price of her clothing -- and only hers -- seems silly.
