This is the same standard by which Obama clinched the nomination.

I wish they had waited for the final results as well, but the simple fact is that this is the same standard everyone used to consider Obama the presumptive nominee in 2008. It just happened earlier this time because Hillary is in a much stronger position than Obama was at an equivalent point in time.

That said, I'll consider it truly over once the she reaches a pledged delegate majority, which is a stronger standard in my view.

Wouldn't have killed the AP to wait 24 hours.

It's no wonder that they don't understand the historical context.

4. This is not the same standard, because HRC had the popular vote then AND now.

She would have been on very solid footing to head to that '08 convention with a clear majority of voters.

Bernie does not have the same footing.

That will be the case for HRC later today. I think the media should have waited this ONE DAY. If anything, they had somewhat messed up her big day -- today. (However, nothing really changes that she is the defacto nominee --- and has been the very very probable nominee (for lack of a commonly accepted phrase) since the race started.

I wish the media would take at least a week - honoring that Clinton is the nominee. Today, MSNBC was already reporting on whether Sanders supporters will support HRC. This is more than useless to have polled that while their were still contests. When that was polled - even as a conditional - many were not ready to make the jump out of the primary season while there were still contests and HRC did not have the majority of the pledged delegates - even as the % she needed fell to ridiculously low numbers that she obviously will exceed.
