Babel_17
(5,400 posts)I canvassed with one of them who was willing to work for Sanders in the primary, and vote for him in the general. That kind of Independent voter, new voter, Green party voter, and other voters, who showed up for Sanders unique message won't be led around to Clinton if Sanders feels obligated to play the part of the pied piper.
What their numbers are is the question. The youngest of these new voters are especially difficult for me to venture a guess on. Their conventional wisdom doesn't derive from sources I'm used to, but I don't see how the Clinton campaign can get a handle on influencing the communications they see and hear. Sanders and Warren aren't that far apart in age but Sanders has been especially amazing at getting the young voters to come around to voting, and getting involved.
Warren resonates extremely well with older progressives but without Sanders as the candidate I think we've lost the youngest ones. To get an idea of their numbers I guess we need to refer to the open primaries.

What would be your endgame? For Republicans to prevail in November?

(17,469 posts)However that has zero effect on how I vote. Plus many here have told me they "don't need" my vote, so good luck and do let me know how it turns out.

(5,761 posts)and I'm a Bernie supporter. I'm deeply disappointed that he's unlikely to be the nominee. But I'll be voting against Trump this November,.
A lot of B ernie people are feeling bitter right now. They will come around as they watch The Donald campaign by insults. I cannot believe that he's the Republican nominee. That he got this far is a very sad statement about our country.

(5,761 posts)Us Bernie supporters have been saying this a long time. Hillary is not well liked at all and has no indy support.
She now is facing a RW populist who the establishment hates but people on that side love. You know who else they all can't stand, Hillary. Double motivation; the absolute hate of someone and an outsider as their candidate? Sorry, Hillary won't beat Trump.

This election will become a referendum on Trump. He's so out there its almost certain.

(10,164 posts)Trump can position himself to the left of Hillary on a number of issues (free trade, for one) that won't necessarily alienate his slack-jawed base. He can modify his rhetoric to seem, at least to the more gullible portions of the electorate, more "presidential." Underestimating his media savvy would be a huge, huge mistake.
jzodda
(2,124 posts)Trump has shown, especially the past week or so, that he is not capable of controlling himself. I don't think that he can.

17% of clinton supporters voted for mccain.Clinton and obama were way too similar to each other.CLinton is enemy of what bernie and his supporters are for.
I forget when in 2008 obamas personly attacked clinton supporters.oh wait they didn't.
This isn't normal election.many claimed trump would never win.he won GOP nomination and he is doing better in polls against
Clinton.
why do clinton supporters care what us bernie supporters do since you all made it clear what you think of us.and many will be gone from Du soon enough.
jzodda
(2,124 posts)I never said I disliked Bernie or his supporters.
I think Trump will drive left of center turnout with out HRC doing anything.
you must be in minority of clinton supporters then.
having 2 candiates whose main appeal is against the other is going to cause low turnout.even in 2012 many were still voting for obama and not against romney.

Obama and Hillary were much closer in ideology than Hillary & Bernie and many Bernie supporters are sick of the whole system. Last night what the AP did sealed the deal. There is no way in hell millions are coming around. We're fed up and this just fueled everything even more.

(11,197 posts)the clintons aren't doing anything to reach out to bernie supporters.
The problem with the cornation of clinton by democratic party leaders is virtully noone has credabilty anymore to reach out to
Bernie supporters. Many so called progressives betreyed the progressive movement by supporting clinton in primarys.
the clintons are reaching out to bush and cruz donors.as well as corporate republicans who don't like trump since he can't be
controled.
There are many reasons why bernie supporters don't like Clinton.

(45,319 posts)highest voter participation in the nation, two Democratic Senators and 4 out of 5 Representatives are Democratic, the State House is blue, the Governor as well.
Your profile says you are from Kentucky, our States voted on the same day. Kentucky turnout was 21% while ours was 39.7%, still shabby by our standards but nearly twice your turnout. Your Senators are Rand Paul and Mitch McConnell and 5 out of 6 of your Reps are Republican.
So it is an interesting choice for you to attack Oregon as not paying attention while your State has half the turnout and twice the Republicans in office. I say twice to be kind. It's far worse than that.

(45,319 posts)of this actively Democratic State while you sit in Texas, which had the second lowest turnout this year and which has Cruz, Cronyn and Abbot along with a Red State House.
Smearing entire States that deliver electoral votes to Democrats which your own State gives to Republicans is an interesting choice to make. Not sure what you get out of it but is sure does not help Hillary, Bernie, Obama, the Democratic Party or the United States of America so I hope what you get for yourself is something you value.

(5,644 posts)Passions are hot, people are saying things that I certainly hope they will reconsider when we get into the general election season. One of two people will be the next president of the United States. They will decide what the Supreme Court will be like for at least the next decade, theyll decide if we move forward trying to stop the civilization ending on coming train that is Global Warming, theyll decide whether 100 years of progressive gains will be erased in the short term of a presidency
Heres a CNN Poll from May 2008:
(CNN) - Just how badly is the Democratic Party divided?
According to the exit polls, half of Clinton's supporters in Indiana would not vote for Obama in a general election match up with John McCain. A third of Clinton voters said they would pick McCain over Obama, while 17 percent said they would not vote at all. Just 48 percent of Clinton supporters said they would back Obama in November.
Obama gets even less support from Clinton backers in North Carolina. There, only 45 percent of Clinton supporters said they would vote for Obama over McCain. Thirty-eight percent said they would vote for McCain while 12 percent said they would not vote.
Obama voters appear to be more willing to support Clinton in November. In Indiana, 59 percent of Obama backers said they'd vote for Clinton, and 70 percent of Obama backers in North Carolina said they'd support the New York Democrat.
