I was earning a decent wage, and I filled out a credit application to buy a TV from Sears. I was trying to build my own credit. They refused the application until I got a co-signer, and then both the credit cards came out in my husbands name.

I returned the TV and closed out the cards.

It was and still is not always easy being an independent woman. People are always trying to tie your worth to someone else.
