I cannot dismiss the niggling thought that the RNC will change their convention rules so they can

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by In_The_Wind (a host of the 2016 Postmortem forum).

dismiss Trump and put in Jeb or Romney, or another establishment candidate. They have ample ammunition to boot Trump, with his fraud conviction alone.

If that happens, the tables will be turned on Democrats and we will need every vote.

Seems to me Trump is afraid and wants out. His empire is suffering greatly with his nomination and bluster and he has a history of throwing in the towel.

2. It would be like if DNC handed nomination to Bernie instead of Clinton.

It would not be good for the party.

The parties have no choice but to nominate Trump and Clinton.

5. Yep, that's the way it's headed. If they tried to push Trump out now there would be incredible

uproars from the ignorant masses that support him.

6. Ignorant or not

The majority still voted for him. The parties should respect democracy and the will of the people.

13. Actually the majority did not vote for him.

He received the most votes but there were 28,054,934 votes cast for Republican candidates. Trump only received 11,676,271 of those votes.

14. My bad

He did receive the most votes from the R Candidates, so he's the preferred choice of those who voted in the R Primaries.

31. No, he didn't get a majority.

There were 17 candidates at one point. Many of the early states Trump won with only 15-20% of the vote, yet received the bulk of the delegates.

3. the real proble is if trump actually quits before the election due to some "unknown" health issue

that could cause us some real problems as trump supporters would have NO reason not to come out and vote

Time to move onto something else.

9. I don't know that they will do anything, but I will never underestimate their will to try.

There has been discussion about running a third candidate in only a few states to jiggle the electoral college and force the election into the House. While I don't know that I'd believe that were a legitimate possibility, I take NOTHING for granted.

11. I suspect this Trump nomination has seriously hurt the GOP brand that was already suffering

He will put them into a hole so big and deep and wide that it will take 4 election cycles to see the light of day. Yes, I suspect your scenario is being vigorously discussed behind closed doors. I'm betting the wish they had 400+ super delegates this time around. Didn't they just do away with Super Delegates 2 election cycles ago?

...a month ago and the DNC pushed him out in favor of an establishment candidate.

That's how well this would go over.

22. no, bernie has never been a hater and he doesnt ridicule minorities, women and an embarrassment

to the majority. Trumps fans are 30% of just republicans- no one else can stomach him. He is no threat to Clinton.

Bernie has enthusiasm and the good will of 60% of all voters. It would be a totally different outcome.Republicans would do better with any other candidate except Cruz.

I think it would be more likely that Trump drops out on his own. The investigations his lies have triggered are going to lead to prison (his tax findings, University just two), his hotels are down half, his breaking of building laws are surfacing. Will he let his empire fall for a bid to be president?

They both have very loyal and anti-establishment supporters; that's the only comparison I am making.

17. Actually, no...

...YES it would give them a far more stable candidate, but NO, it with fatally rupture the Republican Party and lose millions of pro-Trump voters. The Republican Party is going down with the ship this year; it's just a matter of who's on the Bridge...

27. the establishment would love to flush tea partiers, nazis and dodo's

and they would get at least half of their members voting who were not going to vote trump.

Maybe I credit the RNC with Practicality- that is a stretch

still, it looks like they are letting Trump hang himself, there is no panic, nothing

26. The only way Trump is not in the GE is if he wants out

But he risks becoming a pariah to his supporters if he quits now. The RNC is a lof of things but stupid is not one of them, they cannot afford to alienate Trump supporters anymore than The DNC can Sanders supporters.
