"No one wanted Hillary Clinton to win the Democratic nomination Monday night -- not even Hillary Clinton.
The Associated Press surprise decision to declare Clinton the partys presumptive nominee the night before voters headed to the polls in six states Tuesday has muddled the impact of Clintons historic accomplishment and salted the wounds of Sanders supporters.
The declaration, based on a survey of superdelegates, was quickly followed by other news outlets, including NBC News. It sent reporters scrambling and put both candidates and the rest of the Democratic Party in an awkward position as the race was called when few expected it to end.
For Clinton, this is not how she wanted to become the first woman to be a major political partys nominee. During a monumental moment, Clinton kept the party under a lid, instead of breaking out the champagne. "

(8,000 posts)she asked them to wait until the voting was done. She didn't want to go over with them, she wanted to go over with pledged delegates.

(23,730 posts)usually hamhanded moves are from her endless proxies and any clinching talk before the polls close could backfire (as it hopefully has)

(14,255 posts)Really - fishing for sympathy? She deliberately ran an ugly campaign. Period.
I could care less about the "First woman" crap. I don't like her on many many issues. That's all there is to it.

(44,997 posts)Why and for whom leads to a lot of guessing. But I can't say, based on past partisan shenanigans, that I put a lot of trust in the AP.

(2,461 posts)you really should have considered the outcome of your actions. When you are the presumptive nominee in March, and spend the next 3 1/2 months shouting victory, you are simply not going to get your big champagne 'wow' moment.
Another example of unintended consequences? Live with it.

(7,318 posts)This is the first Democratic candidate I can recall in my lifetime that, because she was so enraged by being primaried, "win ar any cost" became the driving force behind her campaign.
