With Clinton ascendant, Democrats worry further infighting distracts from taking on Donald Trump.By BURGESS EVERETT and SEUNG MIN KIM 06/07/16

Democratic senators want to hear a concession speech from Bernie Sanders soon.
Hillary Clintons coronation as the presumptive Democratic nominee has ratcheted up frustration with Sanders defiant fight for the Democratic nomination, exposing divisions when party leaders want the spotlight trained on Donald Trump's flaws. But Sanders' campaign remained unyielding after The Associated Press called the nomination for Clinton, with one top aide calling the news outlet's declaration "one of the most appalling things Ive seen in a long time."
He should stand down now. Thats my conclusion, said Sen. Bill Nelson of Florida. Democrats will come together after the convention, anyway. But its an unnecessary diversion at this point.
Democrats believe they have Republicans on the ropes after Trumps repeated allegations that a federal judge overseeing a case against Trump University cant be impartial because of his Mexican heritage. Anything distracting from that is a wasted opportunity, they say.

Bernie has changed the face of America. He has nothing to lose by claiming the head of the movement position. Nothing. He now heads a coalition of progressives and independents that vastly outnumbers the party of the past.
This coalition is the future. No looking back.

The only people who are demanding a coronation are the people who are arguing that the candidate who lost by every metric and measure should be awarded the nomination anyway.

(2,096 posts)The Democratic establishment is their own worst enemy. I'm so sick of this shit. Every time they try to lecture Bernie and his supporters to get out of the race they make more enemies. Let the god damn election play out. How hard is that to understand? We DON"T TAKE ORDERS FROM YOU! We don't care that you want Bernie to quit. It's not up to you. His campaign is funded by us and we want him to stay in it until the Convention.

(2,096 posts)A team player? You must be joking. Where was the "team" while he was running? They were all lined up against him putting obstacle after obstacle in his way but now they want him to be a team player? That's really rich.
The Democratic establishment politicians are the divisive ones. They are tone deaf and deserve nothing from us. I can't tell you how angry this piece made me.

(34,845 posts)Virtually no endorsements, no coalitions, no partners, no teams, just sheer brute will power. And look what it got him.
25 years in the Senate and America still needed to 'get to know him'. Do you understand how ludicrous that sounds?

your post does sound ludicrous when the topic of conversation is about Dem. politicians telling him to get out of the race. It's not their place to tell him. We are funding him and we want him to stay in. They supported Hillary let them tell Hillary what to do.
randome
(34,845 posts)It is anyone's place to tell him when they think he's harming the party. Do you really think everyone should simply shut up and let Sanders do whatever the hell he wants? That sounds like Reince Priebus' "strategy" with Trump.
No, Sanders doesn't have to listen to anyone. That's par for the course for him, and explains why his own co-workers don't endorse him. Decent man, great ideas, but not a clue as to how to be a leader. A good leader is a good listener.

(34,845 posts)That's the teamwork that's necessary. When your own co-workers don't endorse you, why would you think you can be their leader? I never understood the appeal of Sanders because he swooped in at the last minute into the Democratic Party and expected everyone to be in awe of him.
He says some great things but lots of legislators say great things. The ones that get support are those who shake hands and build teams. Like Clinton.

(47,803 posts)And he is popular as hell with the people of Vermont.
I'd rather a legislator who is that than someone who does the DC cocktail party circuit schmoozing and waiting til they can collect their golden paychecks from the corporate backers.
randome
(34,845 posts)He calls himself a Democrat now but refuses to take any advice. "Schmoozing" is part of the deal. You have to meet with the people you work with, forge alliances and partnerships. Obama knew how to do that. Sanders seems out of his depth in that regard.
If you're implying that Clinton is waiting to retire, well, that's ludicrous because she could have done so long ago. She clearly isn't in this for the money.

The pissed offedness I and many others have about what has become of the Democratic Party is not limited to the Sanders v. Clinton primary. It goes way deeper.

And your post just illustrates that the party establishment & media were against him from the start. I'll take "No shit" for 500, Alex.
"And look what it got him."...Yeah, he has organized a true left independent movement, basically the next phase of Occupy. So it didn't reach critical mass this cycle, bfd.

(34,845 posts)But he's not doing anyone any favors -and, in fact, is making more enemies the longer he tries to tear down Clinton- that I wonder if he is throwing away the opportunities he has.

So I ask why is Team Hillary still fighting Bernie? Why are so many demanding that he drop out when it doesn't matter if he stays in or not?
