2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI'm very impressed...
I'm very impressed by the class and graciousness I've seen from a great many of Sanders supporters in the past several hours. From the levels of vitriol on DU in recent months (from both sides!) I feared that there would be no hope of unity once the primaries had (largely) passed.
I'm grateful to have been mistaken, and I appreciate my fellow Dems' willingness to unite against a common opponent.
Let's get this done!

(11,607 posts)I think there are a couple dozen agitators on both sides here. The rest of us want to move on.
I'm heartbroken and I'm angry about the way things went down in the final days, but I also recognize that none of the process changes we want to see would have made the difference for Bernie.
It's probably a little easier for me than some of the other Bernie supporters because I never hated Hillary to begin with.

I'm greatly optimistic about Democratic prospects up and down the ticket in November!

And caucuses!
And Citizens United!

(11,607 posts)I have mixed feelings about caucuses, because they do give less well known candidates a chance to break through without having to spend zillions of dollars on tv ads, and they are a party-building exercise. On the other hand, I think they pose a hardship for a lot of people. I think a couple states have the option to send a proxy to caucus for you - maybe that is a good middle ground.

(4,311 posts)Everyone seems calmer today, and are thinking more deeply about what they're posting. Of course, there will always be yahoos on both sides.
Thanks for your post.

(63,228 posts)I can hardly fault others for their passion on the matter.
But that time has passed, so I'm formally casting off my yahoo hat and working toward unity for a sweeping Democratic victory in November!

(68,868 posts)1) no restricted-hours caucuses
2) no superdelegates
3) DWS resigning as DNC chair
is easily doable.

(2,052 posts)But the people went to the polls and chose him as is their right. It's stupid and insane. But when we start meddling in that area, democracy as a whole is out the window.
Sometimes the people deserve what they ask for.

(36,223 posts)That will be the inevitable outcome of this.
Which isn't a bad thing... but a Bernie Sanders would have never been able to run. And i do believe his candidacy had merit. No matter how pissed off he made me with his artful smears against Hillary and the Party.

(2,052 posts)both sides see the merit and value of our two very good candidates this year. And I hope objectively we can see that both sides and their surrogates were quite artful in their criticisms.
I haven't agreed with much you have said this year, but I offer my congratulations to you and the others on here.

It is your moment, HRC supporters. Not going to have it tampered by me. Enjoy it.

(2,346 posts)the SOS slot? There's lots to be learned from that example of the victor sharing the spoils and moving forward for the greater good (even when applied on a citizen to citizen level). We are simply stronger when we join together.

(19,089 posts)I cannot say I am depressed, because I am not - I am determined to take the Democratic Party away from the Third Way ... Period ...
This is their last election ....
There is a great population of young people who now 'get it' ... They are overwhelming in favor of a progressive agenda ... We have four years to capture their spirit and organize them ...
Young people want a dream to dream, just like I had in the sixties and seventies ...
The dream is otherwise dead ... That is unacceptable ...
I will abide ... I will even vote for her, if that is our only option ....
But I'll be damned if we don't provide a pathway UPWARD for regular citizens ...
The Third Way will NEVER LIFT THE MIDDLE AND LOWER CLASSES ... Prove me wrong - no bullshit allowed ...
