2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThe reason Bernie lost is the same reason Hillary lost in 2008
Lack of experience as the candidate.. Even though Hillary had experienced the campaign procedures twice.. she was never the focus till 2008.. and it is a whole different ball of wax.
She was young enough to take notes and when she came back she knew how to manage her campaign.. because it is actually 50 plus campaigns.. each state is different in its rules
She stayed close to the ground.. and knew when to start bringing people in and how to do it..
If Bernie was a younger man.. he would probably have a much better chance if he could run again.. but he himself is the conductor of his campaign train.. and his inexperience in not working with each states rules was obvious.
The Barack Obamas of the world..those who know and understand how the campagin situation works.. are once in a generation phenoms.. his skills honed in public service.. Most need more than one swipe at the apple
So thinking that one side is cheating is just not true.. just inexperienced and not willing to take advice is usually the problem.. its a hard lesson most have to learn

I'd bet my home you don't even look at the allegations to see if they're plausible or not.
Do you even really care if there was fraud?

(11,605 posts)Bernie is from a state where statewide campaigns cost less than $1 million and are relatively congenial. In a lot of ways he wasn't ready for the national stage. Which is sad, because he is a good man and I would have loved to have him as president.

(9,359 posts)What killed Hillary's campaign in 2008 was Hillary. She was tone deaf, and ran a 20th century campaign in a 21st century world.
Her war chest was the biggest of any nominee going into this election and managed to eek out a win by less than 5% from an insurgent candidate who had little establishment backing.
Obama had Plouffe and Axelrod and Rouche, all of which were insiders. Obama played insurgent while his inside tram played the DNC game. It was brilliant and it worked.

(13,877 posts)and tried to get others to do so. He kind of inherited it, and did a fantastic job, on the fly, as it was.
What I see as different here, is that he single-handedly carved out a new niche comprised of disgusted stay-at-homers, non-political, the Millenials and perhaps some of the liberal POC.
He does not control this group...he leads it. Either they follow or not, as they choose. I look forward to continuing the We, the People rather than They, the Corporatists and the funding paradigm that infers. There was little chance this was going to fly the first time out. Decades of power don't give way that easily.
I hope he chooses to stay in as the Leader to encourage and mentor candidates from his perspective. 2018 is coming and a slate of Progressive candidates empowered by real people funding should be the first real glimpse.
