2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumhillary clinton
this is a facebook post from a long time attorney friend of mine back in illinois
I hear over and over and over again how Hilary Clinton is "a crook", "a liar", "a cheat", etc. etc. etc. I will say this about that, since I come from a State where 50 percent of our Governors wind up serving Federal Prison time, IF SHE IS AS YOU SAY, then she is a FUCKING GENIUS because, after almost 30 years of FBI and Congressional investigations into her doings, she still has yet to be indicted for any alleged wrongdoing. THEREFORE, I CONCLUDE AS FOLLOWS: If She has successfully thwarted the efforts of FBI agents, Congressional Investigators, and her political foes to bring her down, then she is eminently qualified for the office of POTUS, maybe more qualified than any Man that ever served. If she is indeed innocent of any wrongdoing, then she has more aplomb and grit than any politician in the History of the World to keep coming back for more, and for that she could be my Commander in Chief.

(13,685 posts)That's not saying much.
What does say much is the fact she got far less votes than she got 8 years ago.

(1,825 posts)Basically, this attorney is saying that a clever criminal who eludes indictment for decades is "eminently qualified" to be president, as if the skill involved in escaping indictment is most useful to becoming a good president. As if the immorality of the criminal's criminal undertakings matters not a whit; what matters is the cleverness.
It's alarming that this "attorney friend" is indeed an attorney; one fears what malfeasance could arise from his (or her) indifference to ethics.

(1,825 posts)A scenario entailing guilt is assumed in one case by the attorney, in which case the attorney finds Hillary attractive. If I got away with killing my brother, would you find me suitable to be president -- yes or no?

(1,825 posts)...you decided to post on DemocraticUnderground is that it undermines the morality of the Hillary supporters so enraptured by her that they surrender all logic to specious arguments.
The argument you chose to gave presents the scenario: if she is guilty, then she is so very clever, and thus deserves to be president.
It could have instead presented this scenario: if she is guilty, then her and her tendency toward wickedness should not be in the White House.
Now which of these two scenarios advances morality in society?
I've been thinking about this for a while in a vague way. If Hillary Clinton actually IS as smart and all powerful as her detractors seem to think she is then, heck yes, I want her on my team!
