Bernie has undeserved seniority in the Democratic caucus. Those committee heads get extra money. Bernie could get an 11AM Wednesday speaking slot at the convention. Obama could use his considerable fundraising ability for a VT challenger for Bernie. The party can punish all of Bernies super-delegates. There's plenty of leverage.

Bernie is starting to embarrass himself. Have you noticed the jokes about Bernie not knowing he lost? There was one on the Tonight show last night. He's starting to turn into a punch line.

Despite his alignment with the Democratic Party for this election (and caucusing with them for years), Bernie is an independent. Party pressures aren't going to work on him - and I suspect he'll retire when this term is up. No leverage...

So ask yourself that question (only maybe try and not do it in a condescending, douchey manner, m'kay?).

and even though Bernie is an Independent, he is currently trying to influence the Democratic Party. And implying that the President or the Democratic Party has no leverage with him is naive.

Committees? Well, they can disappear. Any influence he hopes to have within a party he's only a member of so he could use their resources can strip those resources away just as quickly when all is said and done. The President actually has the power in this situation, not Bernie because I'm sure by now polls have been done to see just how "needed" Sanders is.

As I said, I very much doubt Sanders will seek re-election to the Senate...and the optics of stripping committee memberships from him for the remainder of his term would be absolutely dreadful. Not happening.

As far as influencing the platform, the president has no ability to reduce whatever power Bernie has in that area (which I personally consider to be of minimal import, anyway...the platform is window dressing, and everyone knows it). That power resides solely in Bernie's large block of voters...not on anything the Executive branch has any power over.

I wanted someone much more progressive. Of course, he's been stymied at every turn by the GOP...but I still don't see a genuine progressive when I look at Obama. There have been too many pro-corporate decisions that haven't been positive for the people.

Plenty of positive accomplishments, though...

I lost African Americans 4-1, Latinos 3-1, women over 40 4-1 and lost nine of the most populous states including blowouts in the three most populous ones. Oh, did I tell you I lost five of the last seven contests and the only place I shined were in sparsely populated and homogeneous states. But please support me.
