2016 Postmortem

http://www.salon.com/2016/06/09/bernies_road_ahead_three_options_for_the_sunset_of_his_campaign/Apparently he is still waiting for Clinton to be indicted, among other things.
I supported him from early on, but I do feel like he's been losing it lately, and he's been turning me off in the past few days. I can understand where his head is at, but he needs to come down from his ego trip. He's not going to be elected president.

(5,737 posts)Yeah, his followers have turned against Politico in the past few weeks. They will start attacking Move-On shortly.

(11,605 posts)The Politico article, on the other hand, was shoddy journalism, based on conversations with anonymous staffers at the end of a campaign trying to cover their own ass. Even MSNBC said to take that article with a grain of salt.

Hillary didn't get her grain of salt after her 2008 'zomg last days of Clinton campaign', but Bernie will (at least from me).

(58,785 posts)as a national figure with his third-party candidacy. Yes, he still has a constituency, but most people wrote him off. How often do you see him actually getting air time? Almost never, and even Bernie Sanders won't return his phone calls.

(14,040 posts)to get a bunch of concessions. Basically extorting the Dem Party to get some of his issues on the platform. Once he gets what he wants or the most he can get, he'll back down.
That's what I'd do if I were in his position.

(14,040 posts)Trump wins handily or Clinton eeks out a win. 3rd party runs almost always hurt the Dem party more because GOP supporters are usually pretty good about sticking with their party.

(2,124 posts)I hope not. Sure anything can happen but at its most basic level it represents a split of the center to left leaning votes.
This should (in a usual cycle) help Trump.

WhiteTara
(29,693 posts)in all 50 states. Here are the rules.
An individual can run as an independent. Independent presidential candidates typically must petition each state to have their names printed on the general election ballot. For the 2016 presidential contest, it was estimated that an independent candidate would need to collect in excess of 900,000 signatures in order to appear on the general election ballot in every state.[1]
At the link, you will see the filing date in 6 states has past or is too close to be able to set up the petition for votes.
It is conceivable that he would take the Green Party offer to run as a VP, but I don't think his ego would allow him to do that.

(11,573 posts)many if not all states, have sore-loser laws. If you lose your own party's mom, you don't get to run indie or hop onto someone else's ticket.

I just linked to the rules one must play by to be an independent on a presidential ballot.
Were you looking for where Bernie is on the ballot as an independent?
I was asking the poster for a link to his claim that there were rumblings in the Sanders camp about running indie.

(4,119 posts)NOBODY is perfect. Treating Bernie like the second coming of Christ would lead to huge disappointment. It's mostly the younger crowd who turns someone into a hero. They believe him. They don't know that everything he promises has to go through congress and will be watered down...just like Obamacare. If they expect $15 minimum wage...anything less will be a disappointment.
Ordinarily...a candidate who supports the NRA as he does(even after Sandy Hook) would receive huge criticism from democrats. The silence regarding this is....unhealthy.
He is not our savior!

Kinda amusing how many feel they can read Bernie's mind and tell him what to do. You being turned off by him is irrelevant, really.
So, don't vote for him.

(11,619 posts)I would rather he play kingmaker and become a power in the party than suck us down to the ninth level of Trump hell. I hope he chooses route 1. It will be better for the American People.

(37,428 posts)Author doesn't understand campaigning or conventions.
Until Sanders concedes, suspends or is voted down in Philly, he has to be in it to win it. There are no in-between options. As to what he hopes to achieve at the convention, one need only glance through his stated policies.
He's playing for influence, and that means bringing a lot of drlegates to where the cameras will be.

(35,619 posts)...let's go by what Bernie Sanders did today:
Had a smiling meeting with Obama.
Publicly thanked Obama and Biden for their "impartiality" during the process.
Said he congratulated Hillary Clinton on the phone Tuesday night and that he looks forward to meeting with her soon.
Said Donald Trump would be a "disaster" and he'll do everything he can to stop Trump from becoming president.
Met with Harry Reid. Afterwards, Reid said Sanders will campaign for Democratic Senators.
