What a waste of talent. There is no doubt in my mind that Hillary would give her VP a ton of power just as Bill did Al Gore, but still, the senate is the place for Senator Warren. Let us imagine a great partnership between her and Hillary after Hillary is elected president. Oh the legislation they could dream up and pass! Get Bernie in on the deal, WOW!

To have her there, means the Democrats need the majority and that many people in line with more seniority pass. Currently, if the Democrats regained control, Senator Sherrod Brown will chair the committee. He is a strong progressive. Here is the list in order - http://www.banking.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/membership As to her other committees, Maria Cantwell is the ranking member on energy and will chair that. Patty Murray is the ranking member and will chair HELP. Her other assignment is a special committee on aging - where McCaskill is ranking member.

Many people listed below Reed have actually waived chairing that committee, but have more service. Reed is chair of Armed Services, Schumer is in the leadership and is the likely successor to Reid, Menendez headed SFRC until he had to step down from the chair due to legal problems.

The Senate very much runs on seniority, which Warren has little of giving her less official power than her relative prominence would dictate. (This was the situation of HRC in late 2008 as well - she did not chair a committee.) As VP, what she works on will be determined by the President and she would have very little independent power. However, there are many things that HRC has backed that Warren has led on and could advocate more powerfully for as President.

The law in MA is now that the GOV appoints an interim Senator and a special election is called. Yes, I know that is how Scott Brown won in 2010, but it is also how Senator Markey won. There are many potential Democrats ... and Scott Brown would have to move back from NH and hope people don't remember that they decided they didn't like him.

Isn't Schumer, a fellow Democrat from NY a shoo in? He and Hillary are already strongly allied. The only member of the senate's progressive caucus is Bernie. No others, not even Sherrod Brown or Jeff Merkley The few House names that stood out were Ellison, Conyers, Lewis and McDermott who retired. That's why Bernie was so careful to advocate for particular Democrats. He wants real progressives. Chuck Todd today said that Americans are not progressive but center left. IMO, FDR was not center left. He was a real progressive. And the country loved him.

I personally like Franken because he's younger and has a passion for net neutrality.. Not sure that's possible but that's my pick.

She has proven to be an extremely effective Senator. I would hate to see her relegated to the veep slot. But I suppose it doesn't matter what we think. Que sera sera.
