What role does gun control play in Bernie's supporters?

I noted some comments from some Bernie supporters that they opposed Hillary's gun control on handguns, and view Bernie as protecting their rights. I live in a small southern rural town and I know lots of people, including conservative democrats, who are dead certain the government wants to take away all of their guns.

Is this a reason for a segment of Bernie supporters who will not support Hillary?
