2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThere's lots of interest in Bernie Sanders having input
into the Democratic Platform for 2016. I wonder, though, how many people have read the current platform, created in 2012. If you haven't, you can find it at this link:

See what you agree with and disagree with in it and tell us how you would like to see it change. That way, we'll be talking about something based on what the platform actually says.

(11,605 posts)I'd much rather Bernie push for changes to the primary process or for genuine commitments from the party to actually pursue some of his priorities rather than just putting it in the platform.

(146,284 posts)I suspect that fewer than 5% of DUers have even read the 2012 platform, and DUers are more politically interested than the run of the population.
Platforms are look-see things. They're not binding on anyone, and are usually written in general terms. That's why I don't see it as much of an important issue at the convention.

(9,359 posts)Bernie will want specifics.
Oddly, specifics worked for Obama. His Blueprint not only outlined his platform, it answered how he could achieve them. I hate that Hillary talks in broad terms with no in-depth plan. It killed chances in 2008

(146,284 posts)Bernie's committee members won't have enough numbers to override the rest, so the platform will end up with a little input from them, but not control over its content by the Sanders faction. What Bernie wants may not be what Bernie gets, really.
Numbers count.
