Secretariat won the Belmont by 31 lengths. They should have just stopped the race sooner

There was no way Sham or any other horse could have caught up to him BUT there was something called a "finish line" until Secretariat crossed the finish line he did not win the Belmont.

It is playing by the rules of the game. Sham ran his heart out until the end. That is what a true competitor does. They stay in it until the finish line is officially crossed.

... the finish line would be reached this year.

Go for broke. Work to win as many seats possible this year... in two years ... in four years... in 6 years

And all the while, keep lobbying for sponsors for legislation that implements the agenda this nation so desperately needs.

... endorse Clinton as the Democratic nominee, but call on his pledged delegates and superdelegates to support him on the convention floor to demonstrate the level of support for a New New Deal within the party.

If he went that way, between now and the convention (and after) his task would be two fold:

(1) calling on people to support Hillary, and

(2) calling on people to keep fighting for his proposals (and that means winning back Congress by the largest margins possible).

He can keep after Trump, but shift his focus to campaigning for Democrats running for Congress.

Winning seats in the House and Senate is the most effective way to set the stage for real progress. It may be impossible to get Clinton or the party establishment to advocate his agenda because they believe it can't happen, but if we get enough Dems in Congress, the "can't happen" excuse goes out the window

Secretariat was not wiped nor beaten to cross that finish line.

He had no real competition.

He won the Triple Crown -- a feat rare to witness.

I do not get what the comparison is that you are attempting to make.

Be it a presidential race? If so, that "finish line" is mighty crooked I've noticed.

His heart 2-3/4 larger than than the average horse which gave him the phenomenal heart/lung capacity to just keep going and going, gaining speed with no sign of tiring out. Interestingly enough Sham's heart was also very large but not as large as Secretariat's.

Secretariat also had some type of extra elasticity in his spine..leg area which allowed a longer stride and almost leap type of movement that other horses did not have. Also not a normal characteristic. So when people say that he is one in a million, he really is.

officially crossed.

People keep harping on Bernie Sanders dropping out, supporting Hillary Clinton, suspending his campaign........ He doesn't have to nor should anyone expect him to until the finish line is crossed or he wants to. Until then lay off.

At this time DNC has a lot more to gain from Bernie Sanders so there should be respect and there will need to be recognition of the new Democrats brought to the party, the Independents that he attracts, the way that he has proven to be able to raise massive amounts of money in a way that the DNC surely cannot, the inspiration that he brings to the table from his supporters and the fact that he now has shown that a large percentage of the Democratic Party are people in favor of a New Deal platform.

He has valuable things to offer as well as obligations to his supporters. He doesn't just put his tail between his legs and start licking shoes. He actually meant what he said. I believe the word "Revolution" was used and I think that means, in part, that he isn't going to go by the same ole' same ole'. He is still going to fight for us.

Secretariat, Racing Legend And Fans' Favorite, Is Dead
By STEVEN CRIST
Published: October 5, 1989

The 19-year-old stallion was given a lethal injection at 11:45 A.M. yesterday at Claiborne Farm in Paris, Ky., the bluegrass nursery where he lived the lush life of a stallion for the last 15 years. Secretariat was suffering from laminitis, a painful and usually incurable degenerative disease of the sensitive inner tissues of the hoofs.

RIP Dear Secretariat! You've been gone since 1989 but are still very much missed.
