At least you know that means the system isn't rigged. Your vote has been counted. Congrats. politicaljunkie41910 Jun 2016 #5
I thought it was interesting how long it took for the VBM to be counted Fresh_Start Jun 2016 #6

My vote by mail in Oregon was disqualified because they didn't like my signature, and I didn't get the notification from my PO Box until the day after I could do anything about it

that is disappointing.

I was thinking of changing to voting in person instead of by mail to eliminate the wait and frustration.
Would that be possible for you for future elections?

We don't have both here.

For the most part I am in favor of mail-in balloting, but it's terribly frustrating when it doesn't work right.

Edit: I see the confusion - I typed California mirroring you when I meant Oregon.

it probably arrived on Tuesday or even Wednesday when they were probably pretty busy.

In my county, Santa Clara, they verify the signatures of the mail ballots as they come in, up to election day. That's when they open the valid ballots received to date and count them. After 8 PM they start getting the totals from the individual polling places (all the mail ballots, provisional ballots, and any paper ballots have to be physically transported to the registrar's office to be counted). After they get the machine tallies they can start in with the new physical ballots that came in at the office and the individual polling places.

Many DUers advocate for hand-counted paper ballots. Ours are scanned, but for more than half the voters paper and a human are involved in the process, and that slows things down.

It usually takes 3-5 days for mine to show as "counted" after it's marked as "received"

Mu state requests phone # on envelope. To me, signature issues can be arbitrary.
