2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI saw Chris Murphy, Amy Kloubacher, Mark Warner, even a Republican. Where is Bernie?
Is he anywhere near the Senate chamber trying to push through the gun control measures he says he now supports?

(58,785 posts)Enough of these opportunistic, bernista-style attacks. They're embarrassing me, if no one else.
Apparently it's not just Sanders' extremist supporters who've become addicted to hostility. He lost the election. Move on.
Btw, the WSJ reports Bernie is not being vetted for VP either. Big surprise--not.

(5,191 posts)using the Orlando tragedy and subsequent Filibuster a as a poltical cheapshot will not be forgotten and will cost Hillary a lot of votes in November. Is that a winning strategy?
PS: I have a feeling that if Sen Sanders fly into take part, you guys would slam him for that too!

(35,619 posts)...you'd criticize her for it.
Bernie Sanders marched in a vigil in VT for the Orlando victims on Monday.
By the way, HRC supporter and writer Rebecca Traister attacked Sanders on Twitter for supposedly NOT tweeting about the filibuster:

Of course you're not responsible for what she wrote, but Sanders is being attacked both for tweeting and supposedly not tweeting in one night.

(26,068 posts)And I am criticizing him for not at least supporting the filibuster, very enthusiastically, on twitter. But, he needs to be in DC, and there is zero reason for him not to -- his primary is over.
I'm criticizing any Senator not taking part in this.

(35,619 posts)This is what he tweeted on his Senate Twitter account:
I stand with @ChrisMurphyCT to demand common sense gun safety. We can't allow guns to fall into the hands of people who shouldn't have them.
What sense does it make for people to be able to purchase military-style weapons designed to kill people? #Enough
If there is any silver lining to the terrible tragedy in Orlando, it is for us to bring people together to prevent violence of all kinds.
The weapon used in Orlando was legally purchased after a background check. Assault weapons like it should be outright banned.

And, that does for every other single Democratic Senator.

(58,770 posts)The filibuster to force a vote on gun control legislation and the amendment come in the wake of the mass shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida that left 49 people dead and 53 wounded.
Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Connecticut), who launched the filibuster, is seeking a vote on Feinsteins legislation that would let the government stop sales of firearms and explosives to suspected terrorists. She initially introduced her amendment in December, a day after a mass shooting in San Bernardino, California, but her proposal was rejected by the Republican-run Senate.

(2,542 posts)Not so much. Sanders is clearly addicted to the perks of campaigning and doesn't want to go back to his "real life" as a legislator.

(2,542 posts)The fact that he's also avoiding his Senate responsibilities for this Never-Ending Story campaign sideshow is another red flag. He's lost the benefit of the doubt now, because he clearly refuses to accept reality.
He will not be the Democratic nominee.

There was no need for Sanders to speak on the senate floor, since there were already speakers.
The filibuster was successful.
