Hillary Clinton is actively vetting Elizabeth Warren as potential running mate http://bit.ly/2658DKB

I personally was not one of those that favors Warren...and apparently I'm in the minority. That feels weird lol

(85,986 posts)...he's going to need to increase his public profile fast.
I'd wager that there's only a smattering of Americans who even know who he is.

(2,097 posts)That's his brother Joaquin.
As for why he gets no love, I hope it's because being (1) the powerless part-time mayor of a city run by a city manager, and then (2) the head of a cabinet department who's accomplishments no one can name does not qualify you to be a heartbeat away from the presidency. He's nowhere near ready yet, and so picking him would look like tokenism and simply reinforce the perception that Hillary is a pandering, focus-group-driven political operator who puts her own ambitions ahead of the nation.

(1,507 posts)Though I did butcher his name, unfortunately.
He's in Congress, which is a bigger deal than being Mayor of San Antonio IMO.

(2,097 posts)I thought you were asking about why Julian's numbers were so low. As for Joaquin, isn't he just finishing up his first term -- in a Congress that literally did nothing? That's a pretty tough sell. A long-standing congressman like Luis Gutiérrez or Xavier Becerra would be a more plausible pick.

(11,605 posts)But if it's just to make Bernie supporters happier about voting for Hillary I am not for it, because if Hillary doesn't intend to make her an important part of the administration I'd rather have her in the Senate. If she were to play a big role like Biden I would be very happy about it.
geek tragedy
(68,868 posts)Clinton's reasons for wanting her should seem pretty obvious--she's smart, she knows how to speak forcefully, and she's been kicking the crap out of Donald Trump lately.

(11,605 posts)I don't think Warren would take the job just to be window dressing. I am just saying that Hillary should follow Obama's model of picking someone she wants to govern with, not someone chosen based on electoral calculations. If Warren is the person she wants that would be great.
geek tragedy
(68,868 posts)the idea that Clinton would choose Warren because she views Warren as an asset to have in an administration, that she would want a liberal ass-kicker helping move legislation and lobby for policy.
democrattotheend
(11,605 posts)I just remember reading an article a month or so ago about how Hillary didn't really want to pick Warren and would only do so if she felt she had to to unite the party after the primary. But I know they have talked a lot more since, so if Hillary has decided she genuinely wants Warren on her team that's great.
geek tragedy
(68,868 posts)it's kind of a cottage industry.
I think Clinton learned a lot of lessons from 2008--lessons she needed to learn. First, hire advisors who are the polar opposite of Mark Penn.

(2,931 posts)Making one of the biggest establishment leaders the boss of one of the biggest opposition leaders to the establishment is stupid. We need Warren in the senate in order to filibuster all of the shitty things HRC wants passed.
Its a great way to pander to the left and silence one of our strongest voices simultaneously. Screw that.

(85,986 posts)...if any of that nonsense was true.
Sanders folks are still arguing with the caricature of Hillary they invented. I've never seen a campaign so divorced from reality; so intent on remaining in the bubble.
The ENTIRE congressional progressive caucus is supporting Hillary, including its chairman who just switched from Bernie to Hillary today. Nattering on and on about 'establishment' is some ridiculous delusion, having just spent the primary trying to elect a decades-long politician to the highest political office in the land.

(435 posts)we need to get out of the baby boomer generation. Obama whether he likes it or not is a boomer. It is better if the VP can run for President in, EW will be really really old then. Why not a Latino or Asian VP?

(9,359 posts)Right. Voter demographics say that Texas is a 2028, maybe 2024, swing state.
I've looked at this every which way from Sunday, and Texas is not in play.
