No, I Dont Dislike the New Ghostbusters Movie Because I Hate Women Its Because I Strongly Believe In Hollywood Finance Reform.BY SAMUEL PRIEST
I dont dislike this new Ghostbusters movie because theyre all women, thats silly and ridiculous. I cant believe thats even a question, with my history. I mean, my mom and sisters are all women and I know them, so how could I dislike other women that are not them? It doesnt make any sense and, frankly, its below the belt. I mean, how dare you?
I hate the new Ghostbusters movie because my number one issue when judging a film is and has always been Hollywood finance reform. And frankly, Im tired of all big blockbuster movies. The movie system is corrupt and I think we need to put our foot down, right now specifically in 2016, to put a stop to this new Ghostbusters movie as a signal that were done with all big Hollywood blockbusters. And if you dont agree with me, well, maybe you need to stop buying movie tickets with your vagina.
If youre actually looking for an honest movie with integrity about ghosts, check out Abbott and Costellos 1941 classic Hold That Ghost which, actually, does more for female movie leads than the new Ghostbusters movie ever will. No, there arent any female leads in the movie and the movie never really bothers to bring up any issues that would be of concern to female leads, but its also rarely voted against female lead issues, so thats even better than providing female leadership, in a way.
And yes, so far people of color dont seem to be excited about or interested in watching 1941s Hold That Ghost in movie theaters this summer, but thats just because theyre not informed enough about how much theyd enjoy Hold That Ghost. The plot of the movie hinges on hidden finances, which as we all know, encapsulates and trumps all issues of race and gender and discrimination of any kind. I wish people of color that have expressed interest in seeing this new Ghostbusters werent going against their best interests. I have a picture of an important, famous black guy standing near a theater playing Hold That Ghost, if you need more proof that this is a cut and dry issue. Why are we even still talking about this?

(11,619 posts)I do not intend to see the rebooted Ghostbusters, because I am tired of reboots.
I am thankful that the makers of Back to the future are dead set against remaking that series. Some movies are good enough to stand on their own and do not need to be remade to make more money.
I also oppose the very idea of remaking something like Casablanca Gone With the Wind, the Searchers,

(14,255 posts)Looking at the cast, looks like the movie is Bridesmaids meets Old Ghostbusters. I do love Bill Murray, Charles Dance, and Dan Ackroyd, though.
I don't think that inspired and earnest silliness can be reproduced.

Or has the debate moved past those considerations?

Do people need to bring politics into everything?

(5,272 posts)you don't have anything real.
I'm going to repeat this ad infinitum, because I hope people really start thinking about what they are objecting to: The Sanders campaign was able to do something that no campaign has attempted or succeeded at ... to bring a large chunk of white middle-class male voters over to the side of the poor, and the disenfranchised. He aligned their self-interests to the interests of the most marginalized among us.
This could have been huge. The DNC knew it. The media knew it. So they knee-capped the movement by getting out there early and painting Sander's as a candidate for angry white males. They literally took one of Sander's greatest strengths, and turned it into a weakness. And you all bought it. That or you admired the tactic.
