(18,133 posts)(2) His support by ~45% of dems
(3) Most everyone but the wingnut right hate Trump
and (4) the level of dislike for Hillary on the right and left
I think Bernie would win.

(1,999 posts)He has the support of about 43% of those who voted in the Dem primaries. Nowhere close to the same as 43% of all Dems since most people don't vote in primaries. He'd loose a lot that support if he ran 3rd party. The most he could do in a 3rd party run would be to act as another Ralph Nader.

(25,426 posts)Particularly when Sanders himself has indicated that he's not running.
The Reuters poll included 455 recipients with an MOE over over 5%. They have not published any related data or how the questions were posed, which is usually standard when polls come out. Without that, it's just a number.

(11,495 posts)Thats like around 200 who want him to run, not really a great number. The vast majority of Democrats don't want him to run, they have already voted, it wasn't Bernie that they picked. These kind of BS polls are just being done to keep the division in the Democratic party. Sure Trump would love it, and the GOP would love it, but Bernie has said he won't run, so unless you think Bernie is a liar, you might as well forget about it.

If it happens that I do not win that process, would I run outside of the system? Sanders said in the interview broadcast by C-SPAN. No, I made the promise that I would not and I will keep that promise.

Sen. Bernard Sanders campaign manager said Tuesday that Mr. Sanders is not going to launch a third-party bid for the White House a possibility that presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump has been openly encouraging.
Bernie Sanders has said he will not run as a third-party candidate. Hes going to support the Democratic nominee, and thats what hes going to do, Sanders campaign manager Jeff Weaver said on CNNs New Day.
Trump obviously would like a third-party candidate on the left so that he [could] try to divide the vote and win, but I think what youre going to see is unity to defeat Trump, Mr. Weaver said.

(25,406 posts)And if he breaks this promise, the disgust and disillusionment among those who thought that he was a "straight talker" would leave him with zero chance to win?

(25,406 posts)how can he be trusted with any other promise? How would people know that he wouldn't also abandon his plans to bring down the oligarchs and cozy up to them instead?

(18,133 posts)The other two, not so much.
I think Bernie could come up with a reasonable explanation for a change of heart.
Making an issue out of trustworthiness would likely still work to his advantage.

(11,619 posts)In those polls, the Libertarian has the largest effect and most of that being to hurt Trump even more. One with Green and Libertarian added, showed Trump winning, but it was before California. The other poll I saw reflected Trumps collapse in the polls, and Clintons margin of victory was cut.
There are other parties out there but, collectively, they will not amount to more than 1% of the vote.
