Hillary Clinton’s VP shortlist has leaked. Here are the pros and cons of each.

by Dylan Matthews on June 16, 2016, 5:00 p.m. ET

On Thursday, the Wall Street Journal’s Laura Meckler and Colleen McCain Nelson broke the news that Hillary Clinton is vetting Elizabeth Warren for the vice presidency — but not vetting Bernie Sanders. In the process, they provided a shortlist of candidates that Clinton is considering:

Beyond the Massachusetts senator, other prospective candidates include Labor Secretary Tom Perez; Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro; Sens. Tim Kaine of Virginia, Sherrod Brown of Ohio and Cory Booker of New Jersey; Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, and Reps. Xavier Becerra of California and Tim Ryan of Ohio, several Democrats said.

Now, this isn’t necessarily an exhaustive list, and Meckler and Nelson note that the vetting is still in early stages, using publicly available information rather than asking candidates to submit tax returns and the like.

Nonetheless, this list is the best information we've gotten about who Clinton is considering, and it includes some names that haven’t popped up in prior media speculation. All of these candidates have obvious strengths that have put them on this list, but of course, they each have their weaknesses as well. Here’s a rundown:

He is a great guy...and I have voted for him in spite of his pro-life stance which changed a year or two ago. I asked him about it once...and he said he doesn't like abortion but has decided...women should have the right to choose what happens to them. I thought he was sincere. I know others who evolved on this issue and as I said he is great on all the other issues...great union guy...went to bad for Delphi workers who were screwed over by the bankruptcy...really works to help his constituents. I like him a lot.

back in late 2006, early 2007, in the early days of youtube. If you were on any political forums back then, you had to have seen some of his videos. The guy gives fiery, passionate speeches on the House floor better than just about anyone. Similar to Alan Grayson, but more likeable IMO. Go look on YouTube. Besides maybe Warren, he would be the best attack dog and speech maker on the list. A clip of a passionate speech he gave on the house floor about Trump actually got a little bit of play on cable news a couple weeks ago.

I thought back then that he would become a really popular politician or someone's VP pick, and then I kind forgot about him. I heard him do some interviews on NPR a few years later about how he practices Buddhist mindfulness techniques. I was into Buddhist meditation and that kind of stuff at the time so I got a kick out of the fact that it was the guy I remember for yelling speeches so loud in the House. He actually wrote a book called A Mindful Nation.

Buy anyways, he does have a fairly moderate voting record. I think progressives would still like him once he starts to speak though. He seems to be well liked in Ohio so it may help in winning that state. The main thing that will come up with him is the fact that he was pro-life up until only about a year ago I think.

Corey's history says that he would be as disappointing as our own President Obama (and I TRULY hate to say this) has been regarding education and schools.
Corey was working hand-in-hand with Chubs Christy to get charter schools, Teach For America, vouchers, and privatization into NJ schools while he was the "Mayor."
Nope, sorry, he may have "more talent" but he's not applying it in a way that would be good for the USA. That trail that he followed then is one that I will never go down.
