2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumSo in the end, Bernie's in a basement, reading a list of demands?
That was a truly bizarre moment in politics. But hey, never let it be said he wasn't willing to stick to his beliefs.

(1,507 posts)He looked alone, and uncomfortable. As a viewer it felt stuffy. Not in a that person is stuffy kind of way, but rather, a holy shit there are way too many people on this elevator kind of way.
Look they've done a great job. He's had some tremendous ads, and the optics of his campaign have been very good overall. This was not one of those times.
As to your question on the issues, I agree with him on virtually all of them. The list was just a little too exhaustive for the moment. Broad strokes would have been better. I thought he was about to wrap up and then he launched into part 2. It wasn't great. Sorry if stating that opinion offends.
NWCorona
(8,541 posts)While I would agree that he seemed upset. I can't say that I wouldn't be even more so if I was him.
Today was billed as a message to his supporters and I think it should be viewed as such. He's done other videos to his supporters that looked just like this before and I didn't expect him to suspend his campaign, well 90% sure, today.
CorkySt.Clair
(1,507 posts)I'm not sure I did either, but for a second it felt like he was going down that road. I haven't watched the videos Bernie has done. Perhaps that I was watching it on MSNBC made it feel awkward to me.

Talks about defeating Trump, not willing to do a damn thing to actually defeat Trump.
Democrats will defeat Trump, he just needs to stay out of the way.

(34,845 posts)But after 25 years in the Senate, Sanders still couldn't get more than 1 senator to endorse him. And it's safe to assume for the same reason as tonight: the guy rarely has any strategy behind his talking.

(109,021 posts)"Economic, Social, Racial and environmental justice." You haven't been listening, if that's what you really think.
not what I said.
I said that's what he was talking about in his speech. And he is assailed for it.
But now that you mention it, I have been listening. And what I haven't heard is a Democratic candidate looking to end bad trade agreements like the TPP. I haven't heard someone actively looking to bring healthcare to every citizen as a birth right (not incrementally improve on a flawed program). I haven't heard another candidate calling for a living minimum wage of $15. I haven't heard a candidate willing to stop taking money from Wall St and big money special interests.
So perhaps you haven't been listening yourself as you candidate has failed in many of these progressive regards, while I ADMIT she has been succeeding in several other areas and yes WINNING the race.

He has rendered his concession unnecessary and irrelevant. Only 218,000 out of his millions mustered up the initiative to watch his little diatribe. I think it was Joy Reid who called it his "video manifesto."
The campaign claims that about 6000 people requested information on running for local activists. That's great, because they will be going into these offices with progressive ideals, and will also, assuming some fraction of them actually go through with it, learn what it takes to actually get things done on the ground. It will be good for everybody - IF it actually goes anywhere beyond filling out an online form on SBS website.
