2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHillary already scored my vote
But this is what will change my mind if it keeps happening...
1. Telling 12+ million people their voices are irrelevant.
2. Attempting to force Bernie to concede before the convention.
3. Continuing to call Sanders supporters sexist and racist.
4. Accusing Sanders and his supporters of not being Democrats
5. Saying real liberal policies are too ambitious
It's honestly getting old fast. If you hate Bernie Sanders, so be it. But don't degrade and dehumanize his supporters in the process. Many of them are life long democrats that you are pushing out of the party. I have a lot of qualms about Hillary Clinton but I never once directed that at her supporters. In fact, I decided to vote for her to help keep the party intact. But yall are making it extremely difficult to go through with it. We need to unify. That means accepting that parts of Bernies platform get implemented and Bernie supporters vote for Hillary in November. And one won't happen without the other.

(31,260 posts)will be planks inserted by Bernie's people. But he really should congratulate the presumptive nominee on her historic win. So far he hasn't done that even though he knows he lost.

(241 posts)along with his supporters. But to get to that point, Hillary and her supporters need to calm down and accept the reality. It is a contested convention.

(31,260 posts)There will be no contest. Super delegates vote on the first round and Hillary will have MORE than enough votes to close the deal. I just keep wondering what BS supporters are thinking. Raul Grijvala switched his vote from Bernie to Hillary and the way it is going, Bernie's going to end up with just one super delegate vote...his own.
There's also talk that if he doesn't endorse before the convention, he won't have a speaking slot.

(96,882 posts)He can release his delegates and 'trust" that they'll all still vote for him if he holds out until the Convention.
What do you say?

(28,836 posts)It requires that one of the candidates not clearly have a majority of delegates.
Conspiracies and bad math notwithstanding, one of the candidates has a clear majority.

(27,315 posts)While I have a hard time understand some people here who think it is good politics to attack Sanders and try to silence him when he has clearly said Trump should not be allowed to win and that he would help Secretary Clinton about that.
At this point, I do not think Secretary Clinton says your point 1 to 4 any more.
I will support her because I agree with Sanders that Trump is not an acceptable choice anywhere close to the White House (or any Republican candidate who could replace him), and, as it is my ultimate objective, I do not foresee anything foreseeable that will make me change my min.

(30,518 posts)Just as Hillary did in 2008. That is a valid criticism. Let's be honest, his supporters would be lambasting Hillary if she had been the one who lost and refused to concede when it's more than evident that it's over.

(32,265 posts)posters? Hillary is not the source of the statements you refer to. Don't blame Hillary for things she hasn't said.

(2,280 posts)Nobody can force him to, but he's not acting in the best interests of the party or the country right now. Hillary lost, it was much much closer, and she didn't make any list of ransom demands or act like she was robbed or any of that. She conceded, unified the party. He should do that.

(42,862 posts)Wow.
Actually, a great many Sanders supporters here have gone to extraordinary lengths to make it exceedingly clear that they are not Democrats.
Go figure.
TwilightZone
(28,836 posts)Which is easy to do, for supporters of both candidates. From what I recall, she hasn't personally done most of those.
As for #4, many Sanders supporters both on DU and in the real world aren't Democrats - they're Independents, Greens, etc., as many of them remind us frequently. I think your frustration with that one might be a bit misplaced.

(13,685 posts)Instead of dividing Trump voters, they are working hard to divide Bernie voters from the Democratic party.
I wish Skinner would put an end to it.
