2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumClinton campaign shrugs off Sanders
Hothead supporters such as myself should probably follow suit.http://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/283963-clinton-camp-shrugs-off-sanders
Clinton aides and allies say theyve moved on to focus solely on Donald Trump, the presumptive GOP nominee.
They expect Sanders will eventually offer an endorsement, and say they are content to give him the space he needs to get there.
At this point, Bernie Sanders is an after thought, one former Clinton aide said, adding that the world has moved on.
Now it is about Hillary Clinton versus Donald Trump. We are now in full general election mode, the former aide added.
Time to walk the walk and go into general election mode.
My last post on the 2016 primary, and Bernie Sanders (I promise!)
Chill out, she's got this.

(26,877 posts)...and, quite frankly, is quite rude to Senator Sanders and his supporters.
Do yourself, and, *especially* Secretary Clinton a HUGE favor and EMBRACE Senator Sanders' supporters into your fold. Yes, she has clinched the nom - no one (except for a few dead-enders) , INCLUDING Senator Sanders, is disputing that at this point. But, to denigrate him and his supporters NOW is driving away votes from Secretary Clinton (most likely to Dr Jill Stein, less so to Governor Johnson).
GT, I want to win this for the Democratic nominee as much as you do, but I need your, and other Secretary Clinton supporters, help. Please???
geek tragedy
(68,868 posts)I really don't see what more can be done for those who are highly invested in his campaign, until he acknowledges the legitimacy, and existence, of her win, and that his supporters need to figure out a way to work with her supporters, rather than seeing her and her supporters as a faceless wall of establishmentarian corporatism.
He's still acting as if Clinton's supporters are the obstacles to reforms, and the bad guys in his morality play. Until he drops the sanctimonious dismissal of the 55% of the party that didn't vote for him, and instead shows actual leadership, sorry the best we can do is pretend he doesn't exist. We can't treat him as an ally until he presents himself as such, so the best we can do is stop treating him like a foe.
Cooley Hurd
(26,877 posts)That is the dance that's taking place now.

(26,877 posts)...and I respect your devotion to the Democratic nominee, who will be our candidate in the GE. I simply ask that you try to refrain from alienating them. As I've said, at the end of the day, we are ALL on the same side.

(47,803 posts)Aside from the long-term prospects of a shriveling Democratic base, I just hope Trump doesn't implode so much that the GOP actually decides to replace him with an electable candidate.
Then, the level of support Bernie has had won't seem so irrelevant.
This seems apropos :

(26,877 posts)I could, but will not, at this point of the contest, place blame with the "those" you're referring to.
It's this simple; let the bygones be fucking bygones re: the contentious primary season. Time to re-take the WH. The contender on the other side is, in the first time in my memory (and I've been in this for 44 yrs), DANGEROUS!

(47,803 posts)The percentages are fluid obviously......People make their voting choices based on a combination of reasons...Many people who voted for Cliinton also believe in the principles Sanders is pushing for. And many people who voted for Sanders are okay with Clinton, or at least see her as preferable to trump.
But in the big picture, if you act like the 57 percent are all that matters -- and insult Sanders and his supporters and behave as though none of the things Sanders has been pushing for matte,r then you are weakening the Democratic party base both for this election and the future.
Even with the fluidity I mentioned, do you really want to start out with a base of 57 percent, and push 43 percent away?

(2,897 posts)The campaigns are talking through back channels, of course, but barring something else happening, Clinton will be the nominee and she needs to be focusing on the general.
Donald Trump is unable to put up ads until after the Republican convention. That's a huge advantage that a campaign has to get the jump on.

(28,313 posts)I.E., he's making himself completely irrelevant. He's certainly free to do so.
I think he prefers being in the role of the victim. I think he likes standing in the yard, shaking his fists at the sun and screaming into the wind. It's more comfortable for him, and more familiar. At this point, he has a secure job, and it's easier than doing the work to actually get things done.
