2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumDon Trump (again) says US troops are thieves. Vets explode in anger.
Donald Trump yesterday, for the second time, appeared to accuse US troops in Iraq of being thieves.Trump had made the same accusation a year ago, suggesting this wasnt simply an off-the-cuff mistake. Also, its difficult to believe, as the Trump campaign is now alleging, that Trump was referring to Iraq troops, when Trump made the same claim a year ago.
As you can imagine, the troops and vets are not at all pleased with their potentially future commander-in-chief accusing them of being crooks, and living ver well after leaving Iraq, when many left Iraq with PTSD and serious injuries.
First, a look at what Trump said, then the response from the troops. Heres John Harwood of the New York Times and CNBC:

(3,040 posts)Trump is trying to sabotage his own campaign. No GOP candidate that wants to actually win an election would ever say anything negative about our troops.

Its disturbingly fascinating the social phenomenon of that kind of blind loyalty, when there is no flip flop or no questionable actions, that can dissuade a voter from changing their minds on a candidate. I'll just stop there.

(37,748 posts)In 2008, I honestly believed Palin was the most bufoonish caricature of a politician ever presented to the electorate (and yes-- that includes Pres. Fillmore), and that the GOP would learn before it burned.
I was so, so wrong. Trump is the personification of Icarus' grand voyage to the sun.

(314 posts)Ever wonder why the Republicans never investigated this massive, evil, greedy Republican crime against America?
Missing Iraq money may be as much as $18 billion
The pallets of cash in Iraq that the Republicans & cabal stole from the American taxpayers & needy people of Iraq - a crime that Republican so-called "hero" Donald "I got five military deferments. Ha-ha." Trump is now trying to blame our American men and women in uniform:
In 2004, the Bush administration flew twenty billion dollars of shrink-wrapped cash into Iraq on pallets. Now the bulk of that money has disappeared. The funds flown into the war zone were made up of surplus from the UNs oil-for-food program, as well as money from sales of Iraqi oil and seized Iraqi assets. Recent estimates had the amount of missing money at about $6.6 billion, but according to Al Jazeera, Iraqi Parliament Speaker Osama al-Nujaifi says the figure is closer to three times that amount.
