"Vote-rage."

My husband just came up with a new term. Riffing off "road rage" (and "poutrage", too).

Sure describes what happened in Britain, and why Trump & Co. has the following it does.

You vote your rage. Without thinking. Without studying the issues. Without reading anything beforehand. Without bothering to know what you're voting for. All you know is you're mad as hell and wanna lash out. And those manufactured slogans about righteous indignation, that say nothing but sound good, really speak to you.

In other words, you leap before you look. Even though it's long been proven that look-before-you-leap is so much smarter and makes a boatload more sense...

Whaddya think?

Except that the results are more severe, longer lasting and no surgery can repair the cut.

They don't have time to follow the fast-moving political picture. Some vote for name recognition, some for emotional issues and some from anger. Hopefully, some of those who vote from anger will vote out a lot of the House and Senate members so we can get back to work.

I think the internet has greatly influenced politics around the world...certainly in the US.

Many of the biggest cheers and round of applause happen when the other side is insulted.

It's a crappy way to run a democracy. On the bright side, it wouldn't run that way for long ... Before it stopped being anything I'd want to call a democracy.

Instead of taking the little bit of time to research and find what the positions of the candidates are, vote the slogan. No thank you.

prefer without studying her/his views on the important subjects. Then staunchly defending her/his view points although they go against something "you" and "your" party has always railed against. Yes yes I can see it....thank you! meanwhile I was wondering if I had somehow gotten sucked into some parallel universe where everything was completely the opposite.

It's a sorry thing to see but it happens here in the US all the time. The Reagan revolution would be one example I think we can all agree on. Incidentally I find Cameron's crocodile tears unconvincing.

in this case and current US cases, as a symptom of economic inequality.

When the only thing that happens to your quality of life is a slow spiral of doom no matter what you do you're going to be angry.

I don't blame them; I blame the people that caused them to be this angry and the Murdoch Empire that took advantage of it.

before they cast their vote. Rather than "going on their gut" or "following their heart" - look what a mess has resulted! Especially when you have, what? Some three million UK voters petitioning for a do-over by now, because they realized too late what they voted for?

That must be the "Leap Before You Look" crowd...

I'm sorry, JSup, but I don't have much respect, or patience, or sympathy for people who vote with their knee jerks, leaving facts and fact-finding behind until the morning after. Google is everybody's friend. I actually hope they DO get another go at it, although as I understand it, this vote was non-binding. That could be a very wide loophole to drive one of those double-decker buses through.
