Related: About this forumDemocrats Reject Attempt to Change Platform on Israel/Palestinians
http://www.timesofisrael.com/democrats-approve-platform-with-sanders-mark-but-not-on-israel/Democrats approved a draft of the party platform early Saturday, deliberating late into the evening on an amendment to call on Israel to end its occupation and building of West Bank settlements. The document includes steps to break up large Wall Street banks, advocates for a $15 an hour wage and urges the abolition of the death penalty, reflecting the influence of Bernie Sanders presidential campaign.
The group considered the documents language on the Israel-Palestinian conflict, an issue that has divided Democrats. The committee defeated an amendment led by Sanders supporter James Zogby that would have called for providing Palestinians with an end to occupation and illegal settlements and urged an international effort to rebuild Gaza.
Zogby said Sanders had helped craft the language. Instead, the draft reflects presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clintons views and advocates working toward a two-state solution of the Israel-Palestinian conflict that guarantees Israels security with recognized borders and provides the Palestinians with independence, sovereignty, and dignity.

Thank god! Why would the party want language harsh to Israel, a country that Americans support by monster margins, (and majorities and pluralities of Democrats, per Gallup and Pew, respectively) especially against the backdrop of Radical Islamism (as HRC called it), when Israel is an ally in that fight and has been fighting it for decades??

(2,707 posts)2. given Trump's hi terrorism nos., changing the platform regarding an ally against Radical Islamism
(a term HRC used), would be a political death wish.
The anti-Israel wing of the Dem Party, and of the country, is a minority of a minority, which some would call a fringe.

The presumptive nominee's position will always be reflected or given difference when it comes to contentious issues in the platform.

(2,707 posts)4. given that the $15 wage was adopted, the type of people
for whom the platform isn't good enough because it didn't throw a wildly popular ally under the bus, need to have their priorities checked.
