Source: The Hill
Kaine, a rumored vice presidential pick for presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, was asked by NBC's Chuck Todd whether he was ready to be commander-in-chief.
"Abraham Lincoln wouldnt have said yes to that question. Harry Truman wouldnt have said yes to that question. Those are are my two favorite presidents. I am doing my best to be a good senator."
Kaine's remarks have been interpreted by some as a contrast with Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) another Democrat in the running to be Clinton's running mate.
Warren said earlier this month she would be ready to fill in if necessary.
"I know you don't want to job, but do you believe you would be capable of stepping into that job and doing that job if you were ever called to do it?" Rachel Maddow asked Warren in an interview earlier this month.
"Yes, I do," Warren replied.

...confidence-inspiring answer.

He was trying to be humble and not presumptive. It came off as a little scripted and phony. Not badly so, but definitely leaning that way.

...I will endeavor to keep an open mind until I do see it.
Humility is all well and good, but so is confidence (if it is warranted).

(32,777 posts)3. I was taken aback by Warren's answer.
I prefer prepared leaders, but I also think it's good to have a healthy sense of humility and awareness of one's own shortcomings. Without those, you end up with someone like Trump.

(456 posts)4. To be fair Warren's answer was setup by some comments made saying she wouldn't be ready.
I also like her directness. All this "I'm happy being the Senator from yadda yadda.

(5,591 posts)5. How ridiculous. My admiration of Warren grew when she said "Yes, I do."
She was decisive and that's what I want in a leader.
