Florida Republican: Donald Trump is a Democratic plot to make GOP look stupid

A Florida lawmaker suggested that Donald Trump’s bombastic presidential campaign may be a Democratic plot to make the Republican Party look bad.

The Republican lawmaker, Rep. Carlos Curbelo (R-Miami) who has already backed former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush in the race, expanded on his claims in an interview with Colombia’s W Radio.

“There are too many important national, local international topics to waste time talking about a person who, I repeat, in my judgment is irrelevant — and who quite possibly is a phantom candidate recruited by the left to create this entire political circus,” Curbelo said.

Curbelo, a freshman lawmaker, offered a similar theory to Miami radio host Roberto Rodríguez Tejera, the newspaper reported.

“I think there’s a small possibility that this gentleman is a phantom candidate,” Curbelo said. “Mr. Trump has a close friendship with Bill and Hillary Clinton. They were at his last wedding, he has contributed to the Clintons’ foundation, (and) he has contributed to Mrs. Clinton’s Senate campaigns. All of this is very suspicious.”

neither Red nor Blue...but Green, as in greenbacks. Politics is just a handy way to keep the Peasants clammoring over insignificant (at the end of the day) social issues that mask the end result...total financial control. I think I'm getting old and a tad cynical.

I have a feeling Bernie doesn't run with their crowd...just sayin'

If he was, Hillary would have won in 2008. Making a remark about running for President is just one of those things you sometimes say to someone you know, like "Have a nice day."

Don't mistake the necessity of appearing with other politicos as camaraderie of evidence of a club. The club is in the hand behind their backs, the hand without the knife.

No surprise that.

I think it far likelier the Kochs hired Donald as an actor and puppet.

Donald is simply in over his demented, narcissistic head. For him this is a sales job, a con basically to win the Presidency. He'll figure the rest out if he gets elected (which only he still thinks can happen). He'll have people to explain which countries are where, other important stuff like laws he might need to know, who to appoint as Supreme Court Justices, how a government works, how to nuke countries, where to deport Muslims, and how to lay bricks.

If there were any truth to the phantom candidate theory there was plenty of time to figure it out. Don't blame Democrats for your party's stupidity, Rep. Curbelo.

The only thing stupid is the Republican party. Clearly, you lack leadership for allowing him to gain the momentum that he did. But looking at the clown posse that was your primary is a testament to the failings of your party. Ted Cruz was your second place bozo and that speaks VOLUMES of the trajectory of your party. The GOP lost its sanity long ago. The chickens are just coming home to roost. It is called karma. You can't cling onto fear, hate, racism, xenophobia, etc forever and think it doesn't have repercussions.

Trump may have donated to the Clinton's in the past but more than being their friend, he is an opportunist. It's not about Trump and Clinton. It's not even about Trump. It is very much about the shitty party that the GOP has become. And from the looks of your one-dimensional comment, it is no wonder you have Trump and why your party is in ruins. Couldn't happen to a better group.
